EVH 5150 Deluxe Poplar Burl Aqua Burst
I am a NY'er that has recently moved to Pennsylvania. I was in the market for a particular guitar, the EVH 5150 Deluxe Poplar Burl Aqua Burst. They had 'one' available at a discount as an Open Box item. I was assured that this guitar was as new, with only the box being opened, that is not the case. I had requested pictures of the actual guitar prior, and I have those pictures. This is not the guitar I was sent pictures of. The grain of the wood is completely different. The serial number is different. And it has obvious signs of months of usage.
It is missing the wrenches and the inspection tag that come with these. This stuff comes with a new guitar. The guitar comes with a matte finish, and there is a spot worn smooth where the fingertips rest when playing, with fingernail scratches. There is fret wear. The D-Tuna device has been tampered with; this is not set up how the company ships them. It was insufficiently packed, I run a shipping dept in a warehouse and have years of experience shipping items, plus shipping guitars from home. This packaging was worse than novice level packaging, the guitar was bouncing and rattling around loose inside box for a week, across three states. If all of this wasn't enough things wrong with the transaction, I empty what little is left in the box, and there is a piece of paper on the bottom. It is an Amazon return slip in the bottom of the box describing this exact guitar. This guitar came from Amazon, and is used, and not as promised. Now, being a NY'er and knowing what customer service is, I figured once presented with the evidence, they would have at least made some type of effort to make me some type of offer on another similar guitar, or something - anything to keep a new customer. Nope, no attempt. I was polite and didn't tell them how upset I was. Nor did I tell them I had plans beforehand to buy a second new guitar and more related products from them. They did nothing but return my exact purchase price to the penny, which is the only thing that made me glad. When I returned the item, it went to a warehouse in NJ, not their NYC storefront. So, they have no idea what they're selling you. And clearly, they haven't a clue what customer service is. They lost a customer, and I have enough connections in the industry, that they would have gained a very good contact for immediate future sales. That's ok, I'm glad to never have to do business with them again. I have since found another NY store that has offered the same exact guitar NEW, not only at better price, but I saved so much, I made the purchase of the second guitar at the same time, and have already discussed with that new store's salesman how I can help direct more sales to him. SO through getting ... by Adorama. I found a much better store that has EXCELLENT customer service, and are far more deserving of my business and the future business I can send them. Adorama did it to themselves, in not doing the right thing that any good business should do, they just lost thousands of dollars in future sales. October 2021, right before the holidays, too. People will be shopping from now through the end of December, three months of the highest volume of sales could have gone to them. Not a very intelligent move for a company that relies upon sales during this time of year.
They did it to themselves. Adios and Mazel Tov, Adorama.
