About Riu

Riu is an internationally recognized hotel chain. However, it was established in 1953 as a small holiday firm by the Riu Family. Their chain started with an 80 bedroom hotel in Playa de Palma (Mallorca, Spain). This massive chain is still managed by the Riu family (the third generation). Most of Riu chain consists of holiday resorts. Although it has lush a long history, Riu opened their first city hotel in 2010; their prime concern is about resort hotels as mentioned before. As of today, Riu owns a large range of city hotels under the name of City Plaza. During their prestigious history, Riu managed to own a large number of properties; currently they have more than 100 exclusive hotels spread in 19 countries. Every year, Riu chain receives more than 4 million guests. This large hotel chain consists of more than 28,000 employees and that explains the scale of this well established vendor. At present, Riu is ranked among the top 30 hotel chains in the world. It has gained a notable popularity on the Caribbean region however. Here are some of the milestones they achieved during their proud history 1953 – First hotel of the chain 1985 – First hotel away from the Balearic Islands 1991 – First intentional hotel (in Dominical Rep.) 1998 – Third generation of the Riu family appointed for the key positions 2010 – Established their first city hotel 2016 – Expanded to New York and Asia
