competent enough, friendly, but immediately into the upsell. I told him straight up we only wanted standard springs (we’re moving soon) and no fancy warranty. Still, after he finished the “options” talk they handed me an invoice that included a 5-year warranty, a 28-point inspection, and a price way north of what I expected. There were pages and pages to sign; I signed the work order but later couldn’t find my signature on the actual invoice copy. Red flag. I called a couple of other local companies, read them A1’s description verbatim, and their total came in under $500. So yeah, I contested the charge, stopped the card payment, and told A1 we’d pay a fair amount but not be taken. The part that flipped me from annoyed to satisfied was when they actually reviewed the paperwork, admitted the mix-up, and adjusted the bill without a long fight — they refunded the extra and we settled on a reasonable price. Not perfect, and the sales spiel was irritating, but in the end they fixed the door and fixed the billing, which is what mattered.
Quietly fixed, finally usable
Standing in the garage with the door half open, I remember thinking this thing was going to give me a headache. A neighbor had pointed out the A1 van a week earlier, so when my opener started being weird I gave them a call — mostly to stop worrying about whether the door would slam on something or someone. I wasn't expecting much, to be honest; another tech, another quick fix and back to life. Dan showed up, tool bag, measured calm, and got to work.
Weird service, one decent fix, lots of headaches
eventually someone replaced a part and that helped, and I’m honestly glad they came back and did something useful. That said, getting there was a mess, and a few things felt... off.
