I still remember staring at the stack of invoices on my kitchen table. Paid them all. Thought that was the end of it. Turns out it wasn't. I hired a local tax firm to handle my company and personal returns. The staff was polite at first. Then weeks went by with nothing filed. The CRA later told me the returns never showed up. That’s when the panic started. I called. I emailed. I got variations of “we’ll check” and one manager who seemed to dodge answers. The invoices kept coming, and some even had the exact same number on different dates. That felt sloppy, and honestly, a bit like someone covering tracks. When I asked for clarification they denied any mistake. The person who was supposedly handling my account stopped answering. I had to pay another accountant to fix things. So I paid twice for the same work. It cost money and a lot of time. I’ve used small firms before and had better luck, so this was extra disappointing. The worst part was the customer service — not helpful, defensive, sometimes flat out dismissive. I’m left worried about long-term consequences and annoyed that I had to do someone else’s cleanup. If you care about clear communication and actually getting filings done on time, be cautious. I get that mistakes happen, but the way this was handled felt careless. I wanted a partner. I got excuses and extra bills. Frustrating, and a lesson I won’t forget.
