Unexpectedly solid Santoku March 5, 2026

I almost didn’t pull the trigger — had a few bad buys from online knife brands before, so I was wary. But the set showed up in about a week and that first feel erased a lot of my doubts. The 7" Santoku is pleasantly heavy, not in a clumsy way but in a “this is built” way. The handle fits my bigger-than-average hands nicely; the contouring just sits where my fingers want it to. I ran it through carrots, onions, zucchini, Napa cabbage and some firm tofu and it made everything feel faster — honestly cut my prep time down by a good chunk. There was a tiny roughness near the heel right out of the box (I smoothed it in a couple of passes), otherwise the edge was ready. The blade pattern and the burl-wood-ish handle are nice to look at too — not flashy, just tasteful. I’m a certified chef and used to top German blades in a busy Seattle kitchen, so I didn’t expect to be this pleased. The paring knife and the 8" chef (a gift) look promising; I’m curious if my friends will appreciate it as much as I do. Overall glad I took the chance.
