I wouldn’t buy from them. I backed the Kickstarter and ordered two smokers because we’d just moved into a place with a big yard and wanted to host family BBQs — plus my old unit died so I actually needed them. They flipped the incentive rules and hit everyone with a shipping charge after taking our money, then mostly ghosted emails. I only got one smoker, and that one was missing parts. I’ve sent multiple messages, got one short reply saying “we shipped both” and that was it. No offer to fix anything, no clear next steps. It’s frustrating and a bit disappointing after trusting the project, so, yeah, skip it unless you like stress and chasing replies.
Finally showed up, but a rough ride
I backed this on Kickstarter last year and, honestly, I was about to write it off. Communication was on-and-off, then radio silence for months, and the social accounts barely existed — sketchy, yeah. Then an email popped up asking to fill out a sheet, and I rolled my eyes. The product arrived way later than promised and the box was a bit banged up, but there was that one moment — I plugged it in and it actually did what it was supposed to do. Relief, really. It’s not perfect (some quirks, small defects), and support was slow, but it works well enough that I’m satisfied. If you’re backing them — expect delays, ask for tracking, and don’t expect spotless packaging. Still glad I waited, but cautious next time.
A bumpy first Kickstarter, but not a total loss
promised October delivery turned into November, then December, then “before Christmas,” and by mid-December I was basically watching a tracking number sit there doing nothing. On Nov 2 a tracking number showed up, then radio silence. Weeks of no movement, and then the bomb: they said over 1,150 units were seized by U.S. Customs — including mine. After that the updates were all over the place. Some backers were told to contact Customs themselves (which felt like passing the buck), others were promised refunds, others promised reships. Emails from the company were slow, sometimes contradictory, sometimes thin on detail. That part was the worst — not knowing and getting mixed instructions is just maddening. What finally reshaped the situation for me was that Smokpub eventually offered a full refund and a reship option; I accepted the reship and it did show up a few weeks later. So I’m relieved it didn’t end in total loss, and I’m grateful they followed through in the end, but getting there was annoyingly chaotic. One more sore point: seeing the same product on Amazon for cheaper while backers were left waiting felt disrespectful — like backers got bumped to second place. All in all, if you’re thinking about supporting a small crowdfunded gadget, this is a reminder: expect delays, keep pushing for updates, and don’t assume promises mean anything until it’s in your hands. I’m glad this ended up working out for me, but I’d be much more cautious with my money next time.
