Paula pointed out a carved lion in the government rooms, told its story, and suddenly the place clicked. I’d booked because my feet were sore from wandering Venice (bad plan), and wanted a compact tour. Rain hit us, we got damp and a bit cold, but the narration made it worth it.
Avi kept things moving
he knows the place — we got into the museum ahead of the general crowd and started right on time. He was excellent at steering through the sea of people so we could actually stand in front of things, which I appreciated more than I expected. His background notes on materials and symbolism were solid, though at times the pace felt a tad hurried and I would have liked one or two longer stops. He kept a dry sense of humor that lightened things without being obnoxious. Overall honest, useful, a little fast for lingering browsers like me.
Spot-on guide, not flashy
I was tipped off by a friend and first saw the meeting point right outside the Colosseum metro exit. Booking was straightforward. The directions were clear, so finding the group was easy. Our guide, Francesca Romana, spoke plainly. She paced the tour well. The tour runs a bit over three hours, with pauses when needed. It felt hands-on — you walk, you stop, she points, you look. The explanations were concise but full. Technical bits were broken down into simple phrases. I liked that. She didn’t hide details or over-simplify. You get dates, context, and a few side notes that make the ruins click. She addressed people individually sometimes, which made the group feel less like a crowd and more like a small class. At the end I felt like I actually understood the Forum’s layout and the Colosseum’s purpose, not just memorized facts. Glad my friend recommended it. It’s efficient, informative, and left me wanting to read more.
Skeptical but glad I went
I almost didn't book — I wasn't sure about the price and group size, but a friend recommended The Tour Guy and I saw it online, so I tried it. Meeting point and timing were clear, and they upgraded us to an extra level, which was a nice surprise. Our guide knew the Coliseum inside out, she pointed out lots of little stories and details (I wish I'd written down her name). Not perfect — slightly crowded — but definitely worthwhile.
Nice email, terrible follow-up
when we needed to cancel, silence. Calls go to voicemail, emails ignored. Felt like I'd been ghosted by a business, funny until it's not. The one surprising bit was that quick confirmation; too bad it was the only helpful thing. Also, they promise refunds but didn't follow through. Frustrating, would pick someone else.
Little detour that saved the day
So yeah, the company canceled my Versailles tour the night before — no explanation, radio silence to calls and emails — super annoying. But I ended up wandering around my neighborhood with a croissant, found a tiny garden I'd never seen, and honestly had a way sweeter, slower Paris afternoon than the rushed itinerary I had. Still disappointing they never answered, and rebooking was impossible, but that unexpected free time felt like a small gift. Just know customer service was lacking, but the day itself turned out nicer than I expected.
Missed stop, sorted later
I booked this underground Colosseum tour because a friend sent me the link and said it was a steal. The tickets arrived fine and the meeting point was clear, so delivery was smooth. On the tour we were told there wasn't time for Palatine Hill, even though the site said it was included — annoying. I emailed and at first heard nothing, but after a few days they replied and offered a partial refund and an apology. Glad it eventually got resolved.
Sudden-smile moment
Walked in skeptical, and I now knew I'd booked right when she narrated the Doge's Palace story — vivid, funny — and I still use her gelato tip on lazy afternoons.
Louvre pick
She's worth booking — we were glad we did. A friend tipped us after spotting her on a tour site; she was knowledgeable, practical, calm, and actually made the visit memorable — no fluff, which was nice.
Small win, small irritation
Overall, pretty solid — guide was excellent, but the latecomer policy bothered me. Cecilia ran the group really well and the boat tour was pleasant. We used it for a quick family day trip, and waiting an extra five minutes felt unnecessary.
Unexpected local guide
Stepping off the vaporetto at noon, we joined Robbie's walking tour. Felt more like hanging with a local friend than a lecture. She tossed in tiny Venice details I didn't expect. First impressions were immediately warm.
Quietly impressed
Standing under the bus awning, I expected the usual chaos — had bad runs with other companies — but these guides actually knew the history, down to small odd details. Communication was solid. Surprised, I'll book again.
Morning Vatican walk
30. The shortcut into St. Peter’s was awesome though, major time saver. Overall I’d tell a pal it’s worth it.
Stopped hesitating
I almost skipped this because I wasn't sure a food tour would be worth it — crowded tourist traps, worry about time and money. Went on it two days into my Florence trip and I wondered why I hesitated. Five stops felt relaxed, not rushed, and the guide kept things interesting — funny, tall, and knew the history behind the dishes. Group was easygoing so you chat without pressure. Didn’t feel like a tourist trap; real bites, good pace, and I left with new spots to revisit.
Knowledgeable tour guide, small group, great history insights, attentive to questions and needs
My tour guide, Giada, really knew her stuff when it came to the history we were diving into. She gave us super detailed answers to all our questions and made the whole thing really interactive and interesting. The group wasn't too big or too small, it was just right. Giada made sure we all had time to snap some pics and she kept a good watch to make sure no one got left in the dust. All in all, it was an awesome time and I'd totally tell others to check it out.
Small group tour with a knowledgeable and helpful guide
The guide was right on time, really knew her stuff, and made sure everyone felt taken care of. She did a great job of mixing in some jokes along with all the info, which made the tour interesting and fun. And when someone got hurt, she really went the extra mile to help them out so they could still enjoy the whole tour.
Colosseum tour with fantastic guide
Our time with The Tour Guy was absolutely incredible all because of our fantastic guide for the Colosseum tour. He made the history and stories of the Colosseum really come to life in a way that was both informative and fun. Even though there was a little mix-up about when we were supposed to start, our guide Ken more than made up for it with his expertise and enthusiasm. He answered all of our questions and kept us interested the whole time. We walked away with a whole new understanding and respect for the history of the Colosseum and Rome in general.
Coliseum tour
The tour we took of the Coliseum, Palatine Hill, and the Roman Forum was just amazing. Our guide knew so much about Rome's history and really made sure we had a great time. Even with all the people there, he found us the perfect spots to see everything and happily answered any questions we had. We did a walking tour of Florence with them before and it was also fantastic. We definitely suggest this tour group to anyone visiting Italy.
Rome tours x3
We had such a great time on the three tours we booked in Rome! The guides were really cool and shared a lot of interesting information with us. It was awesome that they were always punctual and ready to assist us whenever we needed. Skipping the long lines with the crowd made our experience so much more enjoyable. Make sure to double-check all the details about what to bring, especially don't forget your ID for the Colosseum - we saw someone miss out on the tour because they forgot theirs!
Colosseum tour
I went on the Colosseum tour recently and I have to say, it was such a unique experience. The guide was not only super knowledgeable, but also really funny, making the tour fun the whole way through. I appreciated how he waited for latecomers to catch up, it showed he really cared about everyone on the tour. We got to see the underground area where the gladiators used to get ready, and then the actual arena, which was just amazing. I would definitely suggest this tour for anyone who wants to really grasp the history and importance of this famous landmark.
