    Not-new, but they listened

the company eventually handled my complaint in a way that calmed me down a bit, but I’m still wary. That's the short version. Now the what and why. I opened what was supposed to be a new, high-end silk comforter and found multiple short, curly black hairs on the surface. Not one stray, not a fiber—actual hairs, some loose, some that pulled slightly like they were embedded. My husband and I don’t have black hair, so it was obvious something went wrong before it reached us.
I’m not after money or a replacement; I wanted acknowledgment that this was a real quality-control failure and for someone higher up than front-line customer service to read the complaint. Simple, reasonable. The product was a premium item—priced like it—and being told it’s “brand new” but seeing evidence that it wasn’t is unacceptable. That was my position from the start.
At first I was skeptical that anyone would take it seriously. I’d shopped from silk brands before, and I know what new silk looks and smells like. Opening this comforter felt like someone had repackaged a used item. For someone with skin sensitivity like me, that’s more than gross; it’s a comfort and health issue. So I wrote a straightforward letter asking for escalation, not compensation.
After some back-and-forth I did get contacted by a co-founder. To their credit, this person seemed genuinely interested in fixing the internal problem—talked about retraining QC folks and reviewing procedures. They also sent a coupon without me asking for anything in return. That’s the part that turned my skepticism into cautious satisfaction: a real person higher up read my note and responded thoughtfully. I can’t prove long-term change yet; time will tell if their process actually improves. But the initial reaction was sincere, and that matters.
A few practical points for other shoppers: keep receipts (we didn’t, so I couldn’t give order details), inspect new bedding right away, and if something feels off ask for escalation. If you value premium pricing, expect premium checks. If a seller claims “rigorous quality inspections,” hold them to that. Consumers also need to be persistent—this wouldn’t have reached the right person if I hadn’t kept pushing.
I do wish the company had an obvious way to attach photos; I had images that clearly showed the issue but no easy upload option in the original complaint. That made proving the case clunkier than it should be. Still, the exchange ended better than it began. I’m relieved someone higher up responded and pledged action, and I appreciate the gesture they made. I’m not fully trusting yet, but I’m less angry and more watchful. If they follow through on tightening QC, I’d consider buying again. For now: fair warning to other buyers, and a nod to the co-founder for actually listening.
