So I bought the BBC Grand Piano Core after watching a YouTube demo and told my keyboardist friend Sam to check it out. At first it seemed promising, but in my sessions the piano sits way in the back — like someone playing through a window — and nothing I tweaked in the controls pulled it forward. I asked support for a refund the next day and they said no refunds once a library is downloaded. Now I'm stuck with something I won't use. Annoying, but learned my lesson. Honestly, pretty frustrating, too.
Quick delivery, great choir
very full, flexible samples and tons of tweakability, exactly what I'd hoped for. Odd bit: the library showed up under Ensemble instead of Kontakt, so I spent a few minutes trying to force it into the wrong place before it finally showed in my DAW. I was a little annoyed at first, but ultimately satisfied. Delivery was fast. I didn't need to contact support, but their docs were clear and support seems helpful. Overall pretty happy.
Really like it, installer needs love
I’m happy with the sounds but the install/manager stuff is a real drag. I first ran into this pack when I worked at a studio — a coworker tipped me off and I bought my own copy later. The content sounded great and I even had my content folder backed up from before, but the installer wouldn’t let me just reconnect to it, which felt silly. Also the instruments pop up needing “repair” more often than I’d like, usually right in the middle of a session. I’ve had to run that repair routine a lot over the years with their stuff, not so much with others. Still glad I bought it — sounds fantastic, honestly.
Bamboo in the groove
try different mic mixes, and don’t be afraid to slow down.
Almost bailed, glad I didn’t
I was on the fence at first — worried about the price and then I kind of messed up by making a small buy before I had a first-time discount code, so that made signing up for the newsletter messy. The site said I’d get a confirmation email within an hour and... nothing showed up. I reached out to support and they sorted it out, actually quicker than I expected. Download and setup went smooth after that. I used the libraries right away in a little scoring session and they sounded really full and usable, not just demos. Still a bit annoyed about the sign-up hiccup, but overall relieved and glad I stuck with it.
Almost passed on it
you need to register the serial in Native Access or Kontakt shows it as a demo, that tripped me up at first. You can also download the library via Native Access (so you don't have to hunt files). If you add it manually, a short how-to would save people time — Kontakt’s interface is confusing and I nearly gave up (seriously). Bottom line: not perfect, setup is clunky, but the instruments themselves are solid. Wish the seller included a quick setup checklist, that would fix most complaints.
Weekend with ARO Core
the recordings feel lovely — warm, detailed, and musical in a way that lets you fake realism without constantly tweaking. The samples respond nicely under my fingers; some phrases even surprised me into keeping them. Programming is generally solid (Spitfire's hit-or-miss rep aside), though Core feels a bit... trimmed where it counts: missing a few articulations I actually reach for. What I'd really like is a middle option — buy extra articulations without being forced into the full 16-mic mammoth. Most of us don't need that many mics but do want more playing options. Only genuine gripe: the bassoon staccatissimo isn't as short and tight as I'd expect—compare to the short staccato in SSO bassoons and you'll notice. Hope future ARO solo bassoon patches tighten that up. Overall, good value when discounted; usable and pretty fun to play.
