We ordered a Duraflame 550-22 Infrared Freestanding Electric Stove, when speaking with the sales agent we asked about the material of the outer shell of the fireplace, and were told that it was sturdy and it would not be hot to the touch. After opening the box we found out the outer shell was made of some sort of plastic, it was very cheap and wobbly, as we were reading the manual about the fireplace the 1st thing it said is that this fireplace gets very hot, we have a curious cat who likes to sniff things, so that was already an issue, next to us it seems like a fire hazard. We decided to return the fireplace, but Electricfireplacesdirect.com makes you pay for the return shipping fees, not a great incentive to purchase from them.

Thought I was purchasing a new electric fireplace. It arrived in a used, tattered, and retaped box; and the styrofoam surrounding the stove was cracked and torn... also, it arrived with no legs
We purchased an electric fireplace. It came with a part broken. We quickly and promptly received a replacement, so we were very happy with the customer service. Our only suggestion would be for the company to mark "Handle with Care" and/or "Fragile" on the shipping - maybe better packaging or a better shipping company. The replacement came undamaged but the box had a big gash in it.
