the instructor's approach is engaging and I actually found myself pausing to try techniques, which was a nice surprise given the dry subject. Where it fell down was the course packet — a lot of pages are missing numbers, and when a stack slides on the floor you suddenly have to guess the order. I printed a chunk to follow along, so this wasn’t just annoying, it actively interrupted the session. I emailed BBC Maestro about it and got a short reply basically telling me to number the pages myself, because it was "design." That answer felt dismissive and left me doing work that shouldn’t be on me. Delivery of the material otherwise arrived on time, but the quality control on the handbook was lacking. If you care about neat reference copies, be warned. Customer support's tone was distant; no real follow-up, no timeline for a corrected file. On the plus side the lesson content and pacing are good — the camera angle changes are odd at times but not a dealbreaker, and one segment where the tutor switched to a close-up actually clarified a tricky stroke for me. My advice: download and check the PDF before printing, and be ready to contact support more than once if you expect fixes. I hoped for more proactive handling from them; realistically, expect to do some of the housekeeping yourself.
Almost what I needed
clear audio, a steady pace, presenter is composed and not theatrical, which I liked. The exercises felt practical enough to try in real-world interactions, though some felt a little light and repeated things I’d read elsewhere (yeah, 48 Laws of Power popped into my head). The annoying part is the certificate situation — or lack of heft to it. I would have paid more for something that reads credible on a resume or that I could print and actually call a credential. The course keeps saying “be genuine” while teaching influence steps, which is okay but creates a bit of cognitive dissonance. Bottom line: useful, usable, not perfect. If you want polished depth and a meaningful certificate, this won’t fully get you there. If you want practical pointers to try with a kid prepping for TV, it’ll do the job.
Late-night time surgery
I dove into this course after a chaotic week — coffee cold, brain mushy — and it actually helped me feel less frantic. Watched the videos over a couple of evenings and used the PDF as my quick-reference (perfect for those "wait, what was that tip?" moments). The presenter talks like a sensible friend, not a guru, which made the stuff stick. A few bits I rewatched — not because it was bad, just because I wanted to make sure I’d actually change habits. I’d used his articles before, so this felt like the tidy update I needed. No access drama for me, everything worked smooth, and yeah, I’m glad I signed up.
