usable service, but plan for a few bumps. I bought the registered agent option because I run a one-person LLC and need reliable mail and state notices. At first I was pretty annoyed — the site made it hard to tell what the monthly vs annual pricing actually covered, and seeing a $90 debit felt like a surprise. I asked questions in the chat, which showed a person’s name, but turned out to be an AI that couldn’t actually transfer me to a real rep. That made me doubt the whole thing. I also checked the state database and didn’t see the company listed right away, which scared me more since I rely on this for compliance. After a couple of follow-ups I did get a human reply. They clarified the billing options and confirmed the filing. The agent listing eventually showed up in the state system — took longer than I liked, but it did appear. So I went from skeptical to relieved. In daily life this means I can sleep a bit easier knowing my legal mail will get handled, even if the setup felt clunky. If you’re busy and want zero surprises, be ready to push for confirmation. Not perfect. But if you need the basic function and can tolerate some back-and-forth, it works.
That DBA that never happened
I’d already used these folks to form my LLC and that part was fine — nothing glamorous but it worked. So when I needed a DBA I figured, why reinvent the wheel? Little voice of doubt in my head said “are you sure?” but I shrugged it off. Classic me. I paid for the DBA, got the confirmation that my card was charged, and waited. I mean, that’s how this stuff usually goes, right? Charge, file, ping me when it’s done. Simple.
Fast forward: crickets. I emailed to check in after a couple of weeks and they replied saying it had been filed a month earlier. Okay, weird but okay. That feeling when you realize you paid someone to do work they didn’t actually do is...sour. I dug into the “proof” they sent and it was embarrassing: a Google Drive link with a scan of a check and some system logs that said “uploaded,” but nothing that actually tied the filing to my company name. No filing number, no confirmation from the state, no “hey we filed it for Acme Co.” — nothing. It felt half-baked and sloppy, like someone glued a receipt to an email and called it done.
I tried to be reasonable. Multiple emails asking for a filing number, asking for status updates, even asking for a refund when it became clear they weren’t responding. I called the state, confirmed the absence of the filing, and sent screenshots proving that I’d removed them as my registered agent. I asked them repeatedly to cancel any ongoing subscriptions for registered agent services and state compliance — because if they won’t do basic customer communication, I don’t want them managing anything critical for me. Each time I asked, I got either silence or the vague “we’ll look into it” line. Eventually they said they cancelled subscriptions and passed my refund request to billing — and then I got charged again for services I had explicitly asked them to cancel. So then I’m chasing that charge too.
In the end, I filed the DBA myself online in like 15 minutes and it processed within a few days. Yes, minutes. That’s the thing: the thing I paid them to do literally took me less time than the back-and-forth pain of trying to get a response. I’m not proud of enjoying the tiny victory of having done it myself, but there it is.
Emotionally I went from “meh, it’ll be fine” to annoyed to flat-out distrustful. There’s a weird little betrayal when something as administrative as a filing is ignored; it’s not dramatic, but it’s time and money — two things I don’t want people messing with. I’ll give credit where it’s due: the LLC formation earlier was fine. But the absence of basic follow-up, the lack of documentation tying the work to my company, and the billing weirdness really soured me.
If you’re thinking about using them for a simple DBA: don’t. Do it yourself online unless you need hand-holding for a complicated situation. If you do hire them, keep your expectations low on response times and have a backup plan (and screenshots) ready. I’m leaving this as a heads-up: the product they promised didn’t match what they delivered, and customer service felt like sending messages into a void until I made noise on my own. Small businesses especially can’t afford this kind of vague reliability.
