I'm really impressed — the Lite course actually helped me remember characters and pronunciations faster than anything I've tried. I was skeptical at first, mostly because I'd seen a lot of flashy promises online, but this one uses those memory/imagery tricks in a practical, not weird way. After just two hours I could pull up random characters, say the pronunciation, and recall the meaning more often than not. I've been working through it for about five days, putting in around an hour and a half to two hours each day, and I'm at level 13 now. I'm not claiming mastery — nope — but I'd estimate I can confidently retrieve roughly 80% of the items I've studied. What surprised me is how playful the examples are; they stick in your head. That made studying feel less like a chore and more like a puzzle. Also, seeing actual Chinese sentences in shows and recognizing bits of them has been motivating. One piece of advice: give the Lite a fair shot and pair it with listening to native material — the combo really speeds things up. I wish there was just a tad more spaced review between modules, but that's minor. Anyway, I'm happy I jumped in and would tell a friend to try it.
Locked-in good curriculum, annoying trade-offs
the course itself is smart, practical, and cut through a lot of the usual flab you get with language stuff. Phil and Luke clearly know what they’re doing when it comes to pedagogy — lessons make sense, the pacing is sensible, and for once I didn’t have to invent my own structure. That relief of just following a program and not trying to jury-rig my own path is real. Learning Mandarin as an adult is slow and annoying no matter what you buy, but this setup removes a bunch of the friction that normally kills motivation. So yeah, big thumbs up for the core curriculum. Now the downside, which is also the thing that made me roll my eyes more than once: the technical choices around spaced repetition. Before I bought, I was fairly skeptical because I’d read complaints about their app. I was thinking, okay, the course could be great, but if the SRS experience is clunky that’s a real problem. I stuck with it because the rest looked solid — and my skepticism was vindicated in both directions. The curriculum lived up to its promise, and the SRS choice did not. They use their own Traverse system and, in my experience, it’s just not up to par with what Anki offers. I’ve used Anki for years; it’s stable, flexible, and the community around it is huge. Traverse feels like it was built to keep material locked inside and to limit what you can do with it. That’s a business move, sure, but it’s also frustrating as a user who likes to tweak things, export decks, or share resources. The irony is that the creators used Anki at one point and even mention it in the lessons, so you keep getting reminded that there was a better tool in the past. Then they make the switch sound like it was for users’ benefit. I don’t buy that — at least, not as a primary reason. In the three months I spent using Traverse I saw more UX quirks and small bugs than I remember seeing in several years of Anki. It’s clunkier, and that’s a bummer because SRS is central to how the course claims to work. The other minor irritant was the self-promotion sprinkled through the material. It isn’t a dealbreaker — again, the lessons are solid — but there’s a persistent behind-the-scenes feel of “we’re selling this thing” that made me wary at first. That skepticism is normal for me: when something promotes itself loudly, I start assuming it has to compensate for weaknesses. In this case the product stands on its own, so the promo is more of an annoyance than a red flag. So where does that leave me? I’m glad I bought it, mostly. The teaching approach really helped me get into a steady routine and stay there. My annoyance with Traverse didn’t completely ruin the experience, but it did take away some of the shine. If the team opened up a proper Anki export or just improved Traverse’s reliability and customization options, it would remove most of my complaints. A small piece of advice to anyone thinking of signing up: don’t let the app worry you into skipping the course if you’re desperate for structure — the lessons are worth it — but be prepared to either live with the closed SRS or to make extra effort exporting things and moving them to a tool you trust. Final thought: Phil and Luke seem like folks who genuinely know their stuff and want students to succeed. I get that business choices happen, and maybe those choices pay the bills. Still, it’s annoying to see a really good curriculum held back by a couple of preventable decisions. Overall I’m satisfied, just not uncritically so.
When it finally clicked
I was in a simple conversation and a phrase came out clean, no fumbling, no frantic recall. That exact instant (I remember it, weirdly calm) turned my skepticism into something like quiet acceptance. The beginning is a bit of legwork — you set up characters, make little scenes, give props names — and yeah, it feels like extra effort. But that effort compounds; later on I’d open my notes and it would be there, like compound interest on time spent. I’m not a native English speaker (I’m Brazilian, speak Portuguese), so I used familiar names and settings and that made a difference — more sticky, more memorable. The method is flexible enough to adapt to your background, which matters if you’ve had bad experiences with generic courses. The instructors are pragmatic, not flashy, and the course doesn’t promise magic. It’s straightforward, a little nerdy, and it actually delivers when you hit that first “oh, I can do this” moment. Not perfect, small bumps along the way, but overall I walked away satisfied and actually using the language — which was the whole point.
Language learning aid
This language learning tool is seriously the bomb, I'm telling you. It's not just about learning characters - it helps improve language skills and even other life skills. It's crazy, but this thing has actually motivated me to stick with my diet and exercise plan. Luke and Phil are amazing dudes, always there to help, encourage, and teach. They really go the extra mile to make sure you succeed. I have major respect for their hustle and commitment.
Fun and effective character learning
Mandarin Blueprint is awesome! I've tried learning characters using Duolingo and textbooks before, but it was so hard. It felt like trying to catch a fish with my hands - impossible! With Mandarin Blueprint, it's like magic! The characters just stick in my brain, like peanut butter on bread. I appreciate how they make it easy for me by focusing on common characters - it's like they did all the hard work for me! Now I can recognize characters and understand what they mean. It's really cool!
Pronunciation Mastery Course
The course was amazing! I was shocked by how simple Mandarin pronunciation really is once you get the hang of it. Learning numbers 1-99 and calendar dates was a game-changer for me. It seemed like a wonderful surprise, but it was so much fun! Starting off with the pinyin chart was a bit slow, but all of a sudden it clicked, like the Great Wall coming together. Being able to create and say random numbers and dates correctly by myself was so satisfying. It was like going from 0-100 miles per hour in no time. I'm excited to see what other surprises Mandarin Blueprint has in store for me!

I've never felt so empowered and engaged in learning Mandarin until I found this program. The mix of traditional memorization techniques with their innovative methods has really changed the game for me. The Hanzi movie method is just brilliant and has made remembering characters way easier than I ever imagined. The way they organize the email content keeps me motivated and eager to keep up with the lessons. I actually look forward to studying and feel a real sense of achievement after each session. If you're serious about learning Mandarin, I definitely suggest giving this program a shot.

Pronunciation help
Honestly, I was pretty skeptical about this whole system at first. I mean, I had struggled with pronunciation for years, so why would this be any different? But I decided to give it a shot anyway, and boy am I glad I did. The film method they use to teach pronunciation is seriously a game-changer. It's so simple and effective, I couldn't believe it. I went from being clueless to feeling confident in no time.
Comprehensive Language Course
This language course is amazing. You can tell they really put in the work to make it comprehensive. I personally need structure when I'm learning, and this course definitely provides that. It's reassuring to know that I'm following a clear plan as I tackle this tough language. I still have a lot to learn, but I'm feeling good about how far I've come. Pronunciation course details
The pronunciation course I took was super helpful in clearing up my doubts about Pinyin. Comparing the sounds to English really changed the game for me, making everything so much easier to grasp and remember. Breaking down the initials into different groups was a genius move, especially since some of them aren't even used in English. Thanks to this course, I really noticed a big difference in my pronunciation. I would definitely suggest it to anyone who's having trouble with Mandarin pronunciation.
Teaching method
Taking this course really changed how I learn new characters. I used to have a hard time coming up with props for the elements of the characters, which made learning really tough and frustrating. But this course introduced me to a new way of breaking down characters into initials and finals and using different types of people as actors for different types of initials. This approach totally changed the game for me and made learning way easier and more fun. Now I have a solid method I can count on to make learning characters a breeze.
