She was kind, said sorry for the hassle, promised a few make-up sessions and that another trainer would get in touch. That felt like a relief, I relaxed a bit and kept paying the roughly $200 monthly coach fee while waiting. Weeks went by. No trainer, still charged. I kept calling, and when I tried to cancel she told me about a cancellation penalty over $1,000. That stung. The actual trainer I had been assigned was a mess: always late, once 30 minutes late and then we did 15 minutes of basic stuff and he was like “bye” — no plan, no goals discussed, texting the whole time. Weirdly, when women trained with him he’d be punctual and helpful to the last minute. With me and other guys, he seemed checked out, talking about his other job and rushing off. I get that people have off days, but this was consistent. Emotionally, I felt tired and ripped off — more annoyed than angry at this point. The gym itself is okay: machines, space, all good. But the coach arrangement? I’d be cautious. If you’re like me and need a trainer because of pain or a real rehab plan, insist on written commitments, call until you get a real person, and don’t sign anything without a clear cancellation policy. I wish it had been smoother, but at least the staff woman who helped was honest and kind, even if the follow-through failed.

    the contract buried this horrible cancellation loop. You pay a year at $19.99 a month, fine, but after month twelve you then have to submit written cancellation AND they tack on two more months of fees before they let you go. That felt like being trapped, honestly. I hadn’t been back after the first month — life happened — and I never got a “hey everything ok?” email like my old gym used to send. That lack of follow-up made me feel like they only wanted the money, not me getting healthier. Another gripe: a lot of the trainers didn’t have official certification — in my state that’s legal, but it showed. I wasted some sessions on routines that were all biceps and triceps even though I told them I just wanted to lose weight and help my back. Idiotic, frustrating. Surprise positive though: one trainer did give me a simple walking-and-diet tip that actually helped me drop a couple pounds; didn’t need a heavy weights plan for that, who knew. The place itself was clean and the cardio machines were decent, that part I liked. Still, the contract terms and the “move more than 25 miles? pay $100 and cancel” clause are shady. Bottom line — if you need a gym for health reasons, read every word before signing. I get they’re a business, but this felt like being nickeled-and-dimed out of a real chance to improve my health. I’m stuck deciding whether to pay the $361+ to leave or try to fight it, and that’s not how signing up for exercise should feel.

When I questioned it, I talked to Keith, who was supposedly a manager, and he said nothing could be done because the contract was signed. That felt dismissive. I asked him how to cancel and he had no answer one night, then suddenly “knew” the next day — not a great look for someone in charge. Also awkward: the card used wasn’t even mine, it was my mom’s and I was not an authorized user, and Andrea had told me they wouldn’t charge her card without consent. So that inconsistency set off alarm bells. I never used a single training session in the four months since — partly because I didn’t realize what I’d actually signed up for and partly because of the whole card issue.     the benches sit well, a lot of the cardio machines give you that smooth belt feel, and the free weights have a nice, predictable balance. I noticed right away which machines are the reliable ones — some are hit-and-miss but the ones that work feel great for a proper session, and that matters when you want to get through a circuit without fuss.
