Halfway through the storm I went out and peeled back the neck piece to see how the mare was doing. To my surprise, most of the blanket was dry underneath — just a little damp near the front where rain had crept under the neck cover. That's the moment I relaxed; overall it did its job during everyday turnout. I use this blanket for rainy-day turnout and morning checks, and it's been reliable enough that I feel glad I didn't spend more. Customer support was stubborn about faults, though.
Stopped recommending them
Overall, I won't be buying Gallop Rugs again. I first saw their rugs at my trainer's barn and a friend actually tipped me off, so I had high hopes. Bought a 100g rug in March, used it briefly at the end of spring, then stored it until fall. It's only for milder days since my gelding is fully clipped. After putting it back into occasional use, the stitching on a chest strap came apart in under two months, rendering the rug useless. Customer service was pretty apathetic — they didn't seem to care. Other makers usually offer one to three year warranties. Really disappointing. I'll look elsewhere next time.
Almost walked away
Almost didn't buy again after they canceled and refunded, then raised prices — I went for it, item's fine, still annoyed about the hike.
