That guilty “wait, no” feeling turned into relief

the quoted amounts dropped a lot once they inspected the devices. There was that awkward back-and-forth with a rep offering a tiny bump (like, “here’s fifteen bucks more” — thanks?) and me going, nope, send them back. I did appreciate that they shipped the phones back quickly (that actually saved me a headache), but I still had to pay return postage — which felt like salt in the wound. The real turning point, the moment I actually breathed easier, came when I tried a couple of other buyers. Reboxed and Mazuma both valued my phones much closer to the original quotes and paid out what felt fair. Opening those payment confirmations was this weird, small victory — relief, satisfaction, and a little “I told you so” to myself. Emotion-wise: annoyed and mildly disappointed with the first buyer, but then quietly happy that I didn’t accept a lowball and that the phones ended up where they should. If you’re not desperate for instant cash, don’t be shy about walking away from offers that shift after inspection. Also, read the fine print about return fees so you don’t get surprised. Would I use this first company again? Probably not. But hey, live and learn—now I’ve got moving money and one less thing to worry about.

    Trade-in that turned sideways

I packaged the phone carefully, took timestamped photos, and sent it via DPD like they recommend. First impression: slick site, fast confirmation, seemed easy. I mean, that’s why I tried it.
A few days later I got an "Action Required" email saying the phone had major scratches and damage. The original offer of £245 was cut to £65. That’s the detail I’ll focus on because it mattered: the dramatic drop in value. The phone I sent was working, clean, protected in a case — I double-checked that. When I got the device back it looked scratched in places it hadn’t been before; I honestly think the damage happened while it was with them. They also did not return the protective case I’d included and told me they "don't store such items." Odd.
I asked for intake photos or video showing the condition on arrival; they couldn’t produce any. I logged calls, two of them, with a staff member named Harry — those calls were terse, unhelpful, and didn’t move anything forward. I tried to propose a fair resolution and they ignored it. So yes, it feels like a bait‑and‑switch: high online quote, then downgrade without evidence, then little cooperation.
That said, a small relief — and I’m a bit grateful for this — is that they did actually return the phone instead of keeping it, so it wasn’t a total loss. I’m glad it wasn’t worse, even if the outcome was disappointing. I’ve documented everything and am considering consumer options. For now I’ll stick with more reliable routes for selling phones.

    Watch the video, then decide

I didn't expect this to turn into a small saga. A friend pointed me to webuyanyphone because they were advertising higher payouts than the others, and I compared prices — they showed £340 for my like-new iPhone 14 Pro so I sent it. The phone was a week old, in a case the whole time, wrapped in several layers of bubble wrap before I posted it. I tracked the parcel, it arrived, and then... silence. Four days with no updates, so I had to chase them. An hour after I asked, they tested it and dropped the offer to £180, claiming the phone was in "good" condition rather than pristine.
