So I bought five XTRONS over the past year and, well, most stopped working between six and twelve months. I sent one in for repair, paid about $50, it came back and lasted seven days — that bit annoyed me most. Support felt slow and unhelpful, and overall it's just poor durability for the money. I wouldn't buy again; would tell friends to skip or at least buy a warranty. Kinda really disappointed.
Older BMW, new brain
I first spotted this head unit on a BMW forum. A buddy swore by it so I ordered one, skeptical at first. Fits my 20-year-old E53 like it belongs there. The screen feels solid. Buttons have a weight to them. Setup was straightforward and the CANbus hookup surprised me — just worked, no fuss. I goofed and didn't add the 6m Fakra antenna. Ended up jury-rigging two 3m extensions from the parts store. It's clunky but does the job. Overall I'm pleased, not wowed, but definitely glad I replaced the old stereo.
Felt right instantly
tuck the spare wires neatly.
When the music kept playing
Funny thing, I actually knew I was happy when the first song kept playing without cutting out — that little instant made me grin. I got the Android head unit for my BMW E39, delivery was crazy fast and the unit looks solid in the dash. Setup was straightforward, most stuff works great, aside from the DSP hiccup that kills sound after about 30 seconds (yeah, happens on some Android units). I asked Xtrons before buying and they said IQ7439BL would handle it; it was frustrating at first, but their support eventually pushed a firmware fix and now it's fine. Compared to other sellers who ghost you, this felt like service.
Sunny-day letdown
usable now, but not as robust as it should be.
