seven bottles of champagne for an evening with friends. In real life it unraveled: they sent cheaper bottles (not what I ordered), customer support promised a fix, a courier picked up the wrong bottles (fine, I thought), and then... silence. No correct bottles showed up and no clear refund for the price difference or the failed express fee. So my doubts about reliability were, sadly, justified — only partially eased by the fact they did arrange a pickup. I had to scramble on the day (ran to a local shop, spent more, wasted time), which sucked. Communication was slow and vague — emails that promised things and then nothing concrete. On the plus side, someone did eventually confirm the pickup and I do appreciate that they acted at all; it could have been worse, I guess. Still, for a company that markets itself as premium, the whole thing felt sloppy and underwhelming. I’m glad my party didn’t completely fall apart (we improvised), but I’m not happy about the cost, the stress, or the dragging wait for any refund. Would I order from them again? Not without serious reassurance and clearer proof they can deliver on time.
Small checkout bait-and-switch that bothered me
UPS Standard, 2 bottles €14.85, 6 bottles €16.61, 12 bottles €19.21. That looked steep but manageable, especially since I had about €8.50 in reward points and figured that would soften the blow. So I tossed two bottles in the cart and went to checkout expecting the €14.85 shipping to be applied. Instead the shipping jumped to €16.80 once my zip code was entered. A €4.12 surprise on top of already high shipping — that’s what really annoyed me. I stopped the order and messaged customer service. They replied that the table on the product pages shows average country rates and the exact price is calculated at checkout from UPS rates, so the website didn’t lie because the final price is what counts. Fair enough, but that’s exactly my point: once you enter a zip code it’s no longer an “estimate” for that specific delivery. Showing a neat table with a specific number for two bottles creates an expectation, and then the checkout bump feels like a bait-and-switch. I told them I found it misleading and asked them to delete my account. I’ve ordered wine online in Spain and France for years and those other big retailers either show the real shipping at the product stage after your location is set, or they clearly label anything as an estimate. This one felt like extra friction for no benefit — it wasted time and left me annoyed, which matters when you’re juggling a move and sore backs and just want to buy wine without fuss. The customer rep wasn’t rude, but the policy and the UX are the problem. If you value transparency, avoid retailers that hide or round shipping until checkout; I’d rather pay slightly more for the bottle itself through a seller that gives honest shipping up front than deal with surprises at the end.
