So today I went to the new Bath M&S because I needed a loaf — not dramatic, just breakfast plans and the cupboards were sad. I almost talked myself out of going because new stores = new rules, right? I figured bakery counter = pay there. Rookie assumption. Walking in, everything looked nice and shiny, staff were breezy, no queue at the bakery till, and I thought “great, five quid and I'm out.” Nope.
I tell the person at the counter that's all I want. They look at me like I asked to buy a parking space and say, "You have to use self-checkout." From across the shop I could see the self-serve area wrapped into a line, staff shepherding people to free scanners like it's a theme park ride. I hesitated, asked again, was told again. At that point I was already picturing a half loaf sawing its way out of the tiny paper bag (which, by the way, barely covers the bread — hello gulls), and thought nah, I'll get it elsewhere. Left the loaf on the counter and swung by a local bakery instead.
So yeah, the store itself is pleasant, shelves look tidy, staff weren't rude — just weirdly rigid about where you put your money. My doubts about the place being user-friendly? Not entirely misplaced. Would I go back for other stuff? Sure. But would I expect to be able to buy a single bakery loaf from the bakery counter without doing a scavenger-hunt checkout? No. Not ideal, and the paper bags are laughably small, but otherwise it's fine.Package disappointment
check the pack before you cook. If they keep the service like that, I'll consider ordering again though.
Nice blooms, bad timing
I needed flowers for my dad's memorial, they looked decent but arrived late, staff shrugged it off, left me annoyed and stressed.
Not great, but okay
Surprisingly decent — I expected dead stems, but after a trim they brightened up and lasted on my kitchen table.
Quickly disappointing
Bought a yellow rose trough as retirement gift and set it on living room table; looked fine, but it started collapsing within days — didn’t even make a week, sadly.
Small win for mornings
Halfway through unboxing I worried—one bloom was limp and no plant food, but it brightens my kitchen every morning; not perfect, yet I actually really love it.
Hesitant, turned out alright
I hesitated ordering these as a gift—I'd had bad florist surprises before—but went ahead. They arrived quite open already, I kept them in a cool room; a bit wilted after four days, yet still decent.
Wilted surprise
Bought last-minute for grandma's birthday after my sister's tip on Instagram. I worried about quality. Those worries were spot on — most blooms were limp, looked like they'd had a long night. Won't risk again.
Cash-only surprise at pickup
Needed a few things while moving, only had cash, store card system down. Picked up my click and collect and they said no small bills, no change. Awkward, I fumbled. Staff were helpful; bags felt sturdy and wrapped neat.
Not worth it, sadly
I tried them after a friend recommended it — delivery was late and customer service was rude on the phone, staff seemed uninterested and prices felt way too high. Kinda disappointing, honestly.
Quiet pickup, odd payment
A strange silence in the store when I went to pick up. I started using click and collect and was skeptical since the registers were down and they wanted cash. Staff were calm, pick up quick, delivery slot kept.
Birthday-bouquet mixed bag
I almost backed out — thought they'd arrive sad — but ordered for my daughter's birthday. Opened it same day; about half were fine, the rest had mold or rotten bases and petals falling off. Kind of annoying, though stems stayed surprisingly crisp.
Solid basics, annoying card issue
I went in because I needed decent, sturdy work shirts after a job change (my loyalty card stopped working after that hack), and the shirts feel solid, not flimsy — staff fixed the checkout glitch fast, so overall okay.
Thawed, smaller scones
Found out the pastries were frozen and just heated — the scones are drier and noticeably smaller, and the price jumped from 60p to £1.20. Used to pick these up all the time; now I skip them.
Unexpectedly comfy find
I drop in for clothes — they feel nicer than photos. Staff sort things fast when my card stopped working. Had worse experiences at other shops, so quick help was a pleasant surprise.
Small win
I needed something quick after a brutal move and a sore back. Was annoyed when I learned the pastries were frozen and had shrunk, but when I finally tried one I relaxed — decent taste, small but fine really.
Sparks gone after hack
I want my Sparks account back — it's been unusable since that breach. I used it every week until last month; at first it was handy and fast. Now my email won't register, support replies are vague, though oddly I can still see old points.
Locked after the hack
I need my Sparks account restored. It stopped working after the hack and my email won’t register (M and S block it), so I’m locked out. I used Sparks for years and liked the simple app; communications were poor, though one rep helped.
No big sizes in store
pretty disappointing - their stores barely carry larger women's sizes and staff just told me to order online. Not everyone does that. I had better luck at other retailers, but if you’re fine with web-only it sort of works. Staff seemed unconcerned, which annoyed me a bit.
Didn't expect it, but it worked
Already skeptical, I walked past the ladies section at Rushden Lakes and sent my sister to check Brotherhood Retail Park. Staff there just told her to order online, which annoyed me. I ordered anyway, delivery arrived, it fit, and that’s when I felt satisfied.
