EA+ made a terrible situation manageable. My father was 91 and still traveling. We bought the extra coverage because he liked the freedom, and it turned out to be the right call. While in San Jose del Cabo he fell and needed stitches and had bad bruising. I flew down as things got worse. He was taken to the local ER and that’s when EA+ stepped in. They put a US doctor on the phone with the ER team within an hour. That call cleared up a lot — language issues, concerns about transport, and whether he could safely fly home. The EA+ rep called me on my cell and walked me through his condition calmly. She was steady and clear. Three days later my dad passed. It was awful, but I felt supported. EA+ stayed in touch daily, sometimes twice a day. We had to arrange a funeral and handle bills. EA+ coordinated payment with the hospital and liaised with the funeral people. They even offered to cover our flights home, which we used because we needed to come back sooner than planned. I was grateful — really grateful — for how practical and compassionate they were. We were in shock and they made the logistics a lot less chaotic. Because of that experience, we signed up for EA+ this year for our out-of-country trips. I use it now for peace of mind when I travel for work and when we go on vacation. It’s not flashy, but it works exactly when you need it. It felt like someone had our back in a way we couldn’t have arranged ourselves.
Slow rescue, small relief
45 pm I finally found a customer service number and explained we’d had zero contact. The rep tried to reach the recovery team but couldn’t, promised a callback. Didn’t get one. Around 5 pm we got a call asking if we could be back with the car within 20 minutes. Not possible. We’d left the key with the house. When the driver did arrive he was confused because he hadn’t been told where the key was. Long story short, the car was taken to the garage we’d asked for, but by then it was closed for the weekend. I breathed easier only when I saw the car parked safely at that garage and the driver confirming it was secure — that’s the moment I knew I was actually satisfied. It was late, inefficient, and worrying, but at least it ended with the car where I wanted it and no one stranded on a busy road. I won’t renew, and I’d think twice before choosing this for peace of mind.
Cold car, colder customer service
30 a.m. and I’m half-sitting on the curb like a sad picnic blanket, keys in one hand, phone in the other — that’s where this whole thing kicks off. I’d used the roadside cover before for the usual commuter mishaps, nothing glamorous, so I assumed this would be the same: a quick call, a tow, home. Instead I got long pauses on hold, an optimistic “we’ll try to swing someone by,” and then... silence. Someone did swing by, to confirm the battery was dead. That was it. No tow, no plan, no offer to arrange a taxi. Just a guy nodding and disappearing into the night.
Using the service that morning felt weirdly like being promised a pizza and getting a menu instead. Practical stuff: the app/texts gave me a time window but no follow-through, the phone staff sounded rehearsed, and when I asked about alternatives they were oddly evasive. I ended up calling a different company who managed to get my car home the next day — surprise positive — they were faster and actually had a truck available, which was a relief.
I use this coverage for daily errands, school runs, the odd late shift; I keep it for the security of knowing someone will turn up. This time it didn’t feel secure. Emotionally it was a mix of irritation and disbelief — it’s cold at 4 a.m., you know? — but also a weird bit of gratitude because the other recovery folks were great and the tow driver who actually came with the second company was the kind of person who narrates your life like a small-town radio host, which cheered me up.
Bottom line: the concept is handy, the promise is nice on paper, but the execution that night fell flat. I’d use them again only if I had no other choice, and I’d keep my phone on speed-dial for a backup.Left on the hard shoulder
people sounded fine enough, polite even, but the estimates and directions they gave kept changing and that’s where the confidence crumbled.
