    That little refund moment

I knew I was actually relieved the second a refund showed up on my statement — kind of silly, but that was the turning point. I never signed up for any membership, yet $9.99 kept popping up, and I spent hours with my bank reporting fraud and repeating myself. One charge was refunded and for a minute I felt like maybe this would end. Then I learned that just getting a new card doesn't always stop recurring fees (ugh, learned the hard way). The bank could've done better, the company even more so, but the unexpected helpful part was using ChatGPT to draft my messages — saved me time and calmed me down a bit. If you end up in the same mess, push for an immediate refund, consider canceling the card, and prepare to call more than once. That single refund was the small, surprising thing that made me feel satisfied, like there was finally some progress.

    Convenient, but sketchy charges

two unexpected PayPal charges (one for a trip I never rode, another tiny $4 fee that wasn't explained) had me opening disputes. The ride itself worked fine, drivers on time, app navigation was smooth—I'll give it that—but customer support? Practically non-existent unless you enjoy looping through canned responses. So yeah, convenience is real, but trust isn't. My takeaway: if you use this, keep screenshots, check your card statements, and be ready to fight small charges; it’s annoying but it can be sorted. I’m switching back to calling a local service more often, honestly. Not totally quitting tech, just being more careful. For now it does the job, but it could definitely do better. Also drivers were often friendly and patient overall.

    Double charge, then relief

one charge went through when I booked, then another appeared after the trip. I had to send screenshots and explain (again) that both transactions were real. Support wasn’t super fast and at first they dismissed it, which annoyed me — felt like repeating myself a lot. The moment I actually felt satisfied was when a rep finally confirmed they’d reversed the extra charge and I saw the refund post to my card, even though it took longer than they originally said. Not flawless — the process was clunky and communication could be better — but once it was fixed I was relieved and would use the service again cautiously.

    Porch-wait disappointment

The weirdest part was sitting on my porch waiting for food I never got. A friend had told me to try Uber Eats, and I downloaded the app thinking it'd be easy — used to like Uber rides, actually. I placed an order, added a $4 tip because I wanted to be fair, and the app said the order left the restaurant. Eight minutes later it flashed “delivered.” Nobody drove down my street, no photo of a handoff, nothing. I even sat there for a bit (yeah, I checked). Trying to change or remove that $4 tip was impossible, and they charged tax on top of it — felt like getting charged for a service I never received. Annoying, right? On the plus side, the app UI is clean and it was simple to place the order — that part worked. Still, getting stuck with a lost tip and no refund ruined dinner plans and wasted time. I’m glad it wasn’t more money, but frustrated that customer support didn’t fix it. Won’t be using Eats again anytime soon, even if I still use rides sometimes.

    Holds mess with my budget

I was halfway through unloading groceries when I glanced at my banking app and did a double take — the ride showed as charged for $9.10 and there was another pending $9.09 pre-auth, so my available balance looked way smaller than it should. I get why apps do pre-authorizations, sure, but the annoying part is how long those holds stick around. For a few days that money is effectively gone, even if it’s not a real charge yet, and if you’re trying to stretch every dollar it can mess up your plans. I’ve used the service for over a year and usually things go fine; on this occasion they refunded the extra after I complained, which I appreciated, but that doesn’t change the fact I almost couldn’t pay for something else I needed because the hold was there.
