    Late-night charge, service meh

they say you can pay per report, then charge you automatically at 12:10 AM after three days for $28 — buried in the fine print. Delivery of the actual report was quick and worked fine, so can't complain there, but customer service was rude and sketchy when I asked. Not great

Paid a buck, got a subscription

So there I was, half-asleep, trying to ID a persistent caller — had a bad run with spam calls before, so I was cautious. The app asked for $0.95 for single-use, I thought fine, no subscription, right? Days later I notice a monthly charge. At first it showed info after paying, then poof — nothing. So my worries didn’t go away; they actually came true. Kinda funny in a grumpy way, but mostly just annoyed and feeling duped.

Sneaky recurring charges — lesson learned

I signed up for a cheap one-time thing to use around the house (just testing it while I did laundry) and it actually worked fine at first, felt convenient. Then a recurring fee popped up, cancelling turned into a small saga, and they charged me again after I thought it was done. I’ve got screenshots now, told a few friends, switched services — annoying, but at least I won’t forget.

    Sketchy billing, watch out

Bottom line — sketchy billing, so I'm done. I canceled after a couple months because their background checks weren't great, then agreed to a 'lifetime' $69.95 one-time deal when support offered it. Thought maybe they'd improve. Three months later the same fee showed up again on my card. I disputed it, bank reversed it, and PeopleFinders shut my account because I fought the charge. Some other sites were clearer about charges. Service was okay sometimes, but billing ruined it.

    Charged after I canceled

I wouldn't use the trial again — they charged me after I canceled. I signed up for the $4.99, 3/day trial just to check one feature because I'd had trouble with a similar app before, and I canceled in the app the next day. Then I got an email saying I "upgraded" and they'd billed $29. I never agreed to that. Support insisted I upgraded, argued with me, and wasn't helpful — kind of rude, actually. It wasted my time and left me annoyed.

    Quick check, messy billing

I ran a one-time background check last month because I needed a quick name search. The site felt simple and the report came through fast, so that part was fine. Then I noticed recurring charges even after I thought I'd canceled. I called and talked to Sebastian — he was pretty blunt, not very patient. He canceled my membership but said he couldn't refund past charges because of policy. I'm annoyed about the charges, but relieved it's stopped, so mixed feelings, and honestly glad it's settled.

    One-off turned monthly

I was half-asleep filling out their sign-up, just wanted a one-off domain report for my side business. Had that little voice saying "this feels off" — but I clicked through. A few days later there's a $29.95 monthly charge. I emailed and spoke with David Roldan who said it was non-refundable. I run a small SaaS and know refunds are usually a couple clicks in the CRM, so that felt like stonewalling. My doubts didn’t disappear. It messed with my bookkeeping.

    Skeptical at first, mostly resolved

I needed this while moving and trying to check up on an old landlord — had a few bad experiences with sketchy listings, so I signed up for the 3-day trial. The trial itself worked but the info wasn’t great, so I canceled. Then I started seeing charges for months afterward. Calling customer service was annoying; reps sounded lost until I asked for a manager who finally sorted it out. It took extra calls and patience, I was doubtful the whole time, but they did correct the billing in the end. Delivery of that fix was fine, just slow.

    Nice delivery, awful billing

subscription rolled over the same day I tried to cancel. I emailed and called; customer service sounded scripted, kept quoting fine-print and wouldn't reverse the charge. They sent a boilerplate reply saying my refund request wasn't possible and pointed to the long agreement—so yeah, felt a bit like being out-maneuvered. Delivery itself? Solid. Product works, no complaints there. Service? Not great. Tip: screenshot everything and cancel a few days earlier if you can. I'm not happy, but it still does the job.

    Small lookup, big surprise

I signed up to check an old college buddy after a contractor ghosted me—typical small-town chaos—figured it’d be a one-time lookup. It gave me the info I needed, so thumbs up there. Then each month, like clockwork, a $29.95 charge showed up. They keep your card and bill you whether you meant to join or not. Weirdly, when I asked for a refund they returned the last month right away, so credit where it’s due, but that’s hardly a full solution. Feels shady, and now I check my bank every week. Use it if you must, just watch the charges.

    Good tool, messy billing

the search worked okay but the billing/support ruined it for me. I bought the $29 plan to try and find family — didn’t turn up anything, which is fine, I can live with that. Next month they auto-renewed because I forgot to cancel. When I tried to cancel, some weird page flashed and in two seconds my card had a $69 charge. I called right away and disputed it, but then they blocked my access because I’d opened a dispute, even though the plan was supposed to be lifetime. It’s almost a month and still no refund. So yeah, the app gives decent leads, but watch auto-renew and be ready to fight for your money.

    Almost a bargain gone weird

every report came with a separate download fee, like 95¢ to $3.99 each, so my cheap plan ended up costing more. On the plus side, some basic info was useful, I did find what I needed. My advice: read the fine print, check those tiny fees, and maybe don't rush into the "special" offers. Could be okay for casual lookups, but watch your wallet.

Sneaky billing, decent report but not worth it

I’d skip this. I paid what I thought was a one-time $3.95 for a single report and then, a couple days later, saw a $29.95 charge for a subscription I never knowingly signed up for. I contacted support right away. They sent steps to cancel and said they wouldn’t refund. I asked them to confirm the cancellation and their message made it sound like it was done, but then the status didn’t stick and I was set to be billed again. I’ve dealt with shady signup tricks before, so it wasn’t a shock, but still annoying. The report itself wasn’t terrible — I could’ve pulled similar info for free with a bit more digging. I’m glad I caught the charge early. Not the worst experience, but not worth the hassle.

    That "lifetime" deal felt off

four charges of $29.99 plus the single $24.99. Lucky for me my bank caught most of it, but one $29.99 did go through. I tried to get help — no working phone number, their support email bounced back, and at some point I couldn’t even access parts of their site. So yeah, my pre-purchase doubts didn’t exactly disappear; they were justified. I’m letting them keep the $24.99 for the one use since I did get something out of it, but I’m fighting that extra charge. Feels like a bait-and-switch and it’s frustrating — mostly annoyed, not furious, but definitely not trusting. If a friend asks, I’ll say be careful and read the fine print — and don’t assume a “deal” is harmless.

    Surprise subscription party

I’m sitting on my couch, half-watching a show and trying to quickly Google someone before a neighborhood playdate — thought I’d be clever and use that people-search site instead. Big mistake. The results they “delivered” felt like someone mailed me last year’s phonebook. Outdated info, little bits missing, and way more vague than what a quick Google gave me. I use these things to double-check addresses or make sure a babysitter is legit, so accuracy matters to me in daily life.
What really annoyed me though wasn’t just the crappy results, it was the billing and how customer service handled it. The ad says 95 cents for a search and you think, fine, that’s nothing. Then you get charged 95 cents, and then mysteriously $28.98, and $14.95 in the same week. It felt like they snuck in extra “deliveries” to my card, and when I reached out, support was kind of robotic — long wait, canned responses, no real help and zero refund. They acted like I’d signed up for a subscription I never knowingly wanted.
I’ll give them credit for a slick-looking site, but slick doesn’t mean honest. If you want up-to-date info fast, do a free Google search first. If you still try this service, watch your bank and don’t assume customer service will sort it out quickly. Small payments add up, and it’s not about the money so much as the principle — don’t like being ambushed. I’m done using it for my everyday checks; too risky when you’ve got kids, playdates and deliveries to juggle.

That small, weird relief when the page vanished

screenshots, multiple complaints to different state and federal offices, a couple of messages to the registrar and the hosting company, and one mildly comforting chat with a privacy group. Some places moved faster than others, some replies were basically form letters, and I did have to follow up more than once. Still, persistence paid off. If you’re about to try this, keep a simple log — dates, copies of what you sent, screenshots — it helps when you’re juggling a dozen complaint portals and ticket numbers. Also, don’t expect a single “fix” email to do it; it took a chain of complaints to different players to get traction. My advice: be a little annoying, stay organized, and don’t let the first slow response scare you off. Emotionally, it was a relief — a small win that felt disproportionate because the whole process felt like punching through bureaucracy. I wish the system were smoother, but if you stick with it, you can push these listings offline.
