I tried to cancel my trial on June 24 but it never happened. The cancel button vanished from my account page. Kind of annoying — other services handled it fine. Read onBy: alexzander

    Happy meal mix find

Started using it a few weeks ago. Huge variety — my family keeps saying yes. The shopping list by aisle was a pleasant surprise.

    Easy meals, solid service

Needed fewer grocery runs, so I tried it. Meals cut food waste and saved planning time. Delivery came earlier than expected — nice surprise. Customer service was quick and actually helpful. I’d recommend it.

Rainy morning I was skeptical, but delivery came on time. Customer service fixed billing worry fast — much better than before.

    Okay, I'm sold

I was skeptical at first, but after starting Platejoy last week I noticed unused groceries disappearing and my bill drop within that week — I was sold.

    Paid ahead, then charged again

I started using it last August and first few weeks were fine, to be honest, easy setup. Then nowhere they charged me again even though I paid a year up front — surprised me and messes with bills. No clear contact or help link; delivery of billing info was sloppy.

Saved me time on grocery runs

I almost forgot how annoying meal planning was until this — been burned by other services, but delivery was steady and customer support actually answered fast. Love the Instacart export, and the meals are simple and it saved me money. Subscriptions paid back quick; glad I gave it a shot, honestly.

    One-person lifesaver, mostly

Started this because I needed to lose weight and stop snacking after a rough year. I was skeptical at first. The single-serve meals are the real win—no leftovers, less waste. Been using it for months. Losing weight, bloodwork improved. Not perfect, but it works and is helpful.

    mostly fine

App saves time, but I'm writing about delivery and customer service. Deliveries usually arrive on time, though one box was wet and they replaced it pretty fast (okay). Customer service replied same day — helpful but a bit scripted. Ordering and list features work well. Would like clearer tracking, that's my only real gripe.

    Burned then blessed

My first thought was total waste — clunky app, meh recipes. Then one night I skimmed a dish and cooked it; surprise, real flavor and the steps were easy. After bad experiences with other services, that tiny win made me feel satisfied (and slightly smug).

    Charged After I Canceled

I was in line, thirsty and thinking I’d canceled PlateJoy months ago. I had this nagging doubt they'd bill me, and tonight my card was declined — then I see a $69 charge from them even though my account shows inactive. Their site gives no way to contact anyone. The woman behind me bought my water, nice, but I'm left annoyed and worried; I feel a bit foolish and definitely don't trust them right now.

    Mostly useful, but glitches

ingredient lists don't match recipes, so I ended up buying stuff I didn't need. Support was brusque and kind of unhelpful. Still, when it works it saves time. Not perfect, but usable — and honest, with patience.

    Grocery peace at last

I remember the night my partner actually asked for seconds — that's when I knew. The meal plan was easy, groceries organized, and most dinners came together fast. Not perfect — I tweak spices sometimes — but way better than juggling recipes from random blogs or that other subscription that felt pushy. Staff didn't spam, shopping lists saved time, and my latest bloodwork backed up better eating.

read the fine print, screenshot confirmations, and maybe ask twice about cancellation and delivery. Also, shout-out to the chat rep for trying.

    Clean app, messy business

simple checklist, categories, easy to add recurring items, and the little reminders actually helped me stop forgetting milk. It felt light and practical, not flashy. I canceled the trial because it wasn't worth a monthly fee for me, or so I thought — I mean, I canceled it.
Then I noticed a $99 charge. That was surprising, so I reached out. Dry facts: I used the website contact form, emailed, tried the phone number that Google shows (dead line), and checked social media (inactive). I sent multiple messages over a couple of weeks — 10, then 20 — and got no reply. Nothing. I filed a chargeback with my bank because I needed an answer and frankly didn't want to pay for something I wasn't using.
In the end, after escalating through my bank, the charge was reversed. So, skeptical at first, then sort of relieved — not happy, just relieved. The app does what it says and felt useful day-to-day, but the whole billing and support experience was poor and stressful. If you try it, use a card you can quickly monitor and be ready to dispute if anything odd happens. I’d use the app for lists again, but I’d be very careful about the trial/subscription setup.

    Hidden-renewal headache, partly fixed

the subscription handling was a mess, but one person eventually cleaned it up. I started with the free trial a while back and honestly forgot to cancel before it rolled over — that’s on me — and I got charged $99. First impression of the app was underwhelming: not many recipes that fit my diet, plenty of free stuff elsewhere, so I wasn’t thrilled to pay. Still, I asked for a refund and expected at least a clear answer. Instead I was told I missed the 10-day refund window and that was that. Fair enough, I figured I’d eat the cost and move on.
A year later I get charged again. That’s when it stopped being just my fault and crossed into something I didn’t expect. I went online to cancel and followed the instructions on their FAQ. The walkthrough pointed me at the site as if there was a cancel button there. Spoiler: there wasn’t. I wasted time clicking around, re-reading the FAQs, then dug up old emails to find their contact info because it wasn’t obvious anywhere on the site. Their listed support email was basically tied to the chat widget, which wasn’t advertised clearly. So I reached out. After some back-and-forth I was refunded as a “one-time courtesy” and the subscription was cancelled — hopefully for good.
What annoyed me was the lack of accountability. No apology, no acknowledgement that the website instructions were misleading, no steps offered to prevent the same thing happening to others. It felt like nobody wanted to own the mistake. That made me skeptical and a bit suspicious about how transparent the company is. On the product side, the app itself still didn’t fit my needs, but that’s separate.
The unexpectedly positive part: a team lead named Nicole eventually got involved. She reviewed the whole case, was polite and thorough, and said developers might be looking into a technical issue that prevented me from seeing the cancel option. That didn’t erase the hassle, but it did change my view of their leadership. So I’m adjusting my take: the company’s processes need work, but they don’t completely ignore problems when someone steps in. I wouldn’t recommend the service for my diet needs, but if you do try them, watch the trial end date closely and keep screenshots or confirmation emails handy.

Almost there, needs better diet filters

clean site, quick signup, and the customer support chat answered a question pretty fast (that was a nice surprise, I wasn’t expecting a quick reply). Where it falls short for me is the diet filter logic. You can pick Low FODMAP, and you can pick meat restrictions, but you can’t pick both at the same time in a straightforward way, so if you’re trying to do full Low FODMAP plus vegetarian or pescatarian it gets clunky. I tried the workaround—choose low carb and manually exclude items—but that’s tedious and error-prone given how many foods Low FODMAP excludes. On the bright side, I ordered a starter box for the trial and delivery was on time, driver texted with an ETA, packaging was neat, and there was even a small recipe card tucked in the box (totally unexpected and actually helpful). Customer service was helpful enough when I reached out about the filter options; they noted the limitation and said it’s something the product team is looking at, which gives me hope. Price seems reasonable for what you get, though the value depends on if they add those combined diet options. I’ll keep using the trial and the delivery experience makes that easy, but until the Low FODMAP + plant-based filters are fixed I can’t fully recommend it for people with that combo of needs.
