    Stuck with a schedule I couldn’t use

    50am flight (connecting in REMOVED) with a comfy 2 hour 40 minute layover, which felt safe. Two days later I got an email: my REMOVED–MSP leg was canceled and they wanted me on a 6:40am flight. I told them no (I can’t do that early) and even with the second leg unchanged the layover blew out to almost five hours. Trip.com told me there were "no other options" unless I paid over $120 per person to change, which I refused. I asked for a refund and was denied—apparently because the replacement was only a couple hours earlier and that fits carrier policy. That felt like a neat little trap. The booking itself was fine (site was easy, confirmation quick), and the price wasn’t bad, but the customer service stuck to a rigid script and wouldn’t help. Not a disaster, but frustrating—especially when you’re juggling something important. I get policies exist, but some flexibility here would have saved me a lot of stress and probably the trip.

    I won't rely on Trip.com's customer service again. I booked a flight for a work trip through Trip.com and paid for checked baggage ahead of time, thinking that was sorted. At the airport the airline had no record and I had to pay an extra $35 on the spot — not great when you're rushing. I sent receipts, screenshots, everything to Trip.com right away. Their responses were slow or missing, they missed their own timelines, and at one point they even implied my evidence didn't match the airline (weird, since I only had one bag). I called the airline directly; they replied within 24 hours, investigated and said they'd refund me. So the app and booking flow worked fine — that part's easy — but the customer service? Disappointing and unprofessional, and still no apology or clear explanation three weeks later. If it's a simple booking, you'll be OK, but if anything goes wrong, be prepared to chase them down.

    staff were courteous when you caught them in person. But the delivery process, returns and aftercare were sloppy. If you book through their partner, inspect the car carefully and get any promises in writing. I won’t use them again.

    You'd expect a flexible ticket to actually feel flexible. I paid extra for the promise that changing my date would just mean covering any fare difference, no change fee. In practice it felt like buying a product and finding out later it’s been repackaged and priced differently at the checkout. The website clearly showed a $29 fare gap for the day I wanted — same flight, same class, same baggage — so I assumed it would be straightforward. It wasn’t. Through customer service the number suddenly jumped to $131, and I kept thinking, “wait, that’s not what I saw.” The rep was pleasant enough, not rude, but they kept citing policy and wouldn’t reconcile the two figures. They said a search and a change are treated differently, which didn’t make sense to me given identical details. It felt like being nudged to pay more for the convenience I’d already prepaid.
