if you’re on the west coast there’s basically a three-hour span to reach anyone, and outside of that the line is dead. I used the card and the rewards a few times, then ran into an issue and started calling. The process feels like a maze — short hold times promised in some places, interminable waits in others, and a lot depends on which agent you get. The phone interaction itself is clunky; some reps are competent and fix things in a few minutes, others don’t seem empowered, and once or twice the call ended abruptly when I asked for escalation. That’s the part that leaves a bad taste — you’re trying to use a service and it just feels like you’re being shunted around. I accepted a points offer from the bank as a quick bandage, but I’m still keeping a formal complaint open because the root issue wasn’t fixed. Physically using the card and app is fine — the plastic feels normal, transactions post as expected — but when something deviates, getting help is frustrating. If you rely on reachable customer support, plan calls for the morning window (if you’re on Pacific Time) or consider a different issuer with more consistent lines. I’ll say I’m annoyed, but not surprised; there’s a pattern. My small piece of advice: document timestamps of calls and keep notes of agent names — it helps if you escalate. A dry wish: companies should at least stagger hours so all time zones have decent access. That would make the whole product feel less fragile.
Hold music heroics
I was mid-bite and the hold music had become my evening entertainment when this mess started. Booked a rental plus their insurance because I figured, eh, less to worry about — I even hesitated and almost skipped the extra, but I went for peace of mind. Turns out the travel docs that arrived had zero mention of the insurance, nothing to show I was covered. That first doubt I had before buying? It stuck around, and then multiplied. Spent an hour and a half on hold and eventually had to hang up, tried the chat which was about as useful as a brick, called back, more hold, signed up for a callback. Callback arrived three hours later and when I pressed 1 the system ignored me. After three failed attempts they just hung up. They called again, same useless number, and the third time the menu said a callback would be five days later if I pressed 3 — too late, obviously, but I pressed 3 anyway just to talk to someone and lodge a complaint. That didn't work either. Finally a real human answered and I felt, briefly, like maybe this would get sorted — but still no clear confirmation on the insurance. Had better luck with other companies before, so this was especially disappointing.
