So, odd story — got pinged on WhatsApp by folks saying they were UK travel agents and directed me to a booking site. Long story short, my card showed several hefty withdrawals over a few days (think thousands and a few hundreds) and I didn’t get any tickets or confirmations at first. I felt immediately suspicious — who wouldn’t? I contacted my bank and they opened a fraud case. I also reached out to the merchant and to Alternative Airlines to get clarity. At first I was pretty annoyed and worried, but the bank moved quickly and the merchant actually engaged with me instead of ghosting. After some back-and-forth there was a refund process and things started to calm down. It wasn’t seamless, had to chase a bit and repeat details, but ultimately I got resolution and that eased my mind. If you’re careful with unsolicited WhatsApp offers it’ll help — and don’t ignore your statements. In the end I’m relieved and a little smarter for the next time.
