Realized it during my morning coffee run, smiled.
Unexpected relief
I almost canceled — saw worrying photos elsewhere, but the staff showed thoughtful care, shady areas for animals, and I really relaxed.
Surprise visitor
Wasn't expecting to see a rat scurry by the bathroom — gross, yeah, but staff cleaned up, moved us, I've had worse stays elsewhere, so a bit relieved
Rough stay in Mexico
Booked a room through them — place looked sketchy, mattress missing so I ended up on the floor for four nights. Felt grimy, staff didn’t help much. Not great, honestly at all.
Not what I expected
Halfway through my stay, after a rough check-in and meh food and a room that felt dusty, I found a quiet spot on the balcony with a real sunset and one staffer who actually cared — that’s when I relaxed, kind of.
I almost didn't book
I almost didn't book — had so many doubts after reading mixed stuff, but a buddy sent me their photos and I caved. Turns out the place was better than I thought; staff remembered my name and the breakfast was great.

Lobby find turned win
I first spotted this electric toothbrush on the bathroom shelf at the Occidental Dresden Newa — my friend actually flagged it, said “try that one” — and I'm glad I did. It's surprisingly solid-feeling, not flimsy, with strong but gentle vibrations and a comfy grip. Battery lasts way longer than I expected. Took a day to get used to the pressure settings, but now it's my go-to. Really happy with the clean feeling, and grateful my friend pointed it out.
Unexpectedly comfy Taksim base
I knew I was sold when I flopped into bed after a flight and the next morning's breakfast (used it as my base for exploring Taksim) nailed it — great coffee, buffet, spa, and Alousa was helpful.
Lakeside find in Hamburg
mini-fridge was dead, I told reception and nothing happened, kinda meh on customer service overall.
Member rate felt off
I almost didn’t book because the member rate kept looking weird — after discounts it matched the public price and once it was even pricier. I needed a place fast for a short move and my back was killing me, so I was extra cautious. Check‑in was fine and the room was quieter than I expected, which helped, but the pricing felt dishonest. Won’t risk it again, switching to Eurostars.
Woke up sweating in Punta Cana
Woke up sweating because the AC in our room was basically out, and the elevator was down so lugging bags felt old-school. Rooms seemed a bit neglected, small things left undone, and the buffet was meh — not awful but not great. Staff were polite and tried to fix things, credit where it's due. Feels like management is cutting corners though. Oddly, the beach and one bartender were actually a bright spot, so not all bad.
That live show I shouldn't have watched
very slick staging, trainers everywhere, but something felt off. Then a dolphin collapsed on stage and died; there’s footage online. My focus is on the captive animals — that one detail ruined it. I’m actually glad I hadn’t booked a stay; felt relieved I didn't give them money after that. It stuck with me, honestly. I still think about it.
Hung-up and sent in circles
I was half-expecting bureaucracy, but I didn’t expect to spend an hour getting nowhere. I almost didn’t buy because of mixed reviews, so I was nervous. Customer service finally replied with a UK number; sounded promising, right? Nope. First woman hung up when I asked for a manager (yes, actually put the phone down). Called back, second woman pointed me straight to the website that had sent me to her. Language barrier made it slow and awkward, they were blunt and rude. My doubts weren’t soothed — they got louder. I’ve had better support elsewhere, so yeah, disappointing.
Sketchy pool and poor follow-up
Honestly, I wouldn’t call this safe — the ladder gave way and shoved me under while I was getting out of the pool in May. I noticed obvious corrosion right away. Manager kind of shrugged, said nothing about maintenance, so I emailed the hotel and head office. A month later they asked for photos, but when I tried to upload them the system blocked me. They apparently got the message last week, yet no real response. I started out worried and left a bit shaken, and now I’m mostly annoyed — it’s fine otherwise, just not handled well.
Upgrade? Not really
Halfway through the week I kept thinking about the booking doubts I had — I almost canceled when a colleague tipped this place and the photos looked too good to be true. We wanted an upgrade from the Princess chain hotel we'd enjoyed, but that feeling never fully left. Rooms are tired, pool is small, food choices thin. We tried the all-inclusive-plus thinking it'd be worth it; not much extra. On the plus side, one barista there made a surprisingly good espresso and a receptionist actually sorted a late room change fast. Overall ok, not enough to make me rebook.
Not really a sale
the "sale" ended up costing me more than booking a week earlier. I only needed a simple, low-key family trip — my back was acting up and we were desperate for some rest — so I was watching the price closely. Went into Blue Monday expecting a drop; instead the site bumped the per-night rate then applied a discount, so the math looked worse. Before the sale the whole stay was about $4,800; during the sale it jumped to roughly $5,200. Per night went from around $650 to about $900 and then they said, hey, sale price — but that was after inflating the base. Felt like a sneaky trick. I even checked other resorts: Bahia Principe was roughly $1,400 cheaper for our family dates. Misleading and annoying, honestly.
Late-night check-in, stayed for everything else
bar shuts at 11pm which felt early, rooms could use a bit of TLC and a little table by the sunbeds would’ve been handy. Also, some grab support coming out of the shower would help (personal thing). Overall, comfy, convenient, and would return.
Delivery wake-up call
Woke up to a chorus of deliveries every morning — crates and people yelling names as they walked in. We were there a few nights; room was nice (big bed, decent view but faced the service road — my bad). First night I was eager for the buffet, but the food came lukewarm even when fresh trays appeared — like someone hit snooze on the warming lamp. Evening shows were fun, but the bar team started packing up as soon as the music ended, so asking for a late drink felt like interrupting a bedtime story (three staff kept vanishing behind the counter). Drinks were good when they showed up. Staff were generally friendly, but repeated delivery noise and spotty service made it a one-time visit for me.
Small nerves, big surprise
ask for a quieter table and be a bit specific about what you want — that helped. Overall I left feeling pretty glad I went, not annoyed like I worried I would be. Little bumps here and there, but more thumbs up than not.
