Great for my commute
Room mix-up, quiet fix
By the time I was half-unpacked I realized this stay might actually work. At check-in they’d given me an older roadside room even though I’d asked for one away from morning sun and traffic — annoying on a work trip when I need decent sleep and quiet for calls. Reception could’ve handled it better, and breakfast was pretty meh. The turning point was the duty supervisor who listened and moved me the next morning to a quieter, brighter room. Waking up without the street noise is when I felt satisfied. It’s still a budget place and not polished, but that small fix made the difference.
Booked months ahead, then canceled
It’s weird how a place can look fine online and feel sketchy when it actually matters. Had this room booked for months for a simple weekend, the listing showed full for weeks, then out of nowhere Agoda sent a cancellation email. The same room popped back up at nearly £700 for two nights — felt like they were just squeezing money. We ended up booking a different hotel that was cheaper and actually reputable, which made the whole thing even more frustrating. Using hotels for years, I expect at least that bookings are honored. Service at check-in wasn’t tested, but the booking process left a bad taste. Mildly annoyed, honestly.
Not what the pictures showed
someone tried our door while we were inside, my partner flagged it at reception and they checked the CCTV, said it was a mistake — maybe, but it wasn’t a one-off. Housekeeping knocked early one morning while we were out cold, then there was hammering from the next room at dawn. Shower had quirks, water temp fluctuated. It’s usable, and staff try to help, but I didn’t feel completely safe or comfortable. I’d go somewhere else next time — good for a cheap stopover, not for relaxing.
Close to the Tube — staff helpful, building tired
big drafts from the windows (we ended up stuffing paper in gaps), stubborn tap handles that require a wrestling match, and some other little things that show age. So yeah, not perfect, but for a short winter stay where proximity and reliable staff mattered, it did the job and I left more satisfied than I expected.
