one agent actually sounded sincere and said they'd escalate it — I was surprised and briefly relieved — but nothing came of it. Feels like being shuffled around instead of helped. Booking.com/Gotogate handled it like a checkbox exercise, which is the last thing you want during a loss.
Mixed bag — didn’t expect this level of hassle
I hesitated before buying this Italy–Vietnam roundtrip because the itinerary had a tight connection and I was traveling for both family time and a couple of remote work deadlines. The price looked fine (€493), and I figured I could risk it — small doubt, nothing huge — since I travel a lot and usually things sort themselves out. Turns out my worry wasn’t unfounded. The airline cancelled the Shanghai–Milan leg and moved it to the next day. That immediately messed up my schedule and I had to choose between an extra day away from work or asking for a full refund for the return portion. I asked for the refund since they didn’t offer any hotel or transport for the unexpected layover in China. One rep in chat straight-up said I’d be refunded the whole Hanoi–Milan segment, which calmed me a bit, but then they also said I couldn’t know the amount in advance and should check back after the refund if it looked wrong. That felt odd — like, how can a booking company not tell you what you paid? Another support agent later said they could send a request to the airline that would allow me to see the refund estimate first, and that sounded better — I’d review it and confirm. But then the case was finalized without my okay and I got only about €140 back. That’s less than a third of what I paid for the return. I had to cobble together extra nights, rearrange calls, and eat additional costs out of pocket. I complained again via chat as suggested; they said they’d look into it. Next day an email said €140 refunded and the rest nonrefundable, period, no proper breakdown. Pretty disappointing handling overall. I’m not looking for drama, just clear communication and a fair split when half the service wasn’t delivered. If you’re booking similar itineraries, double-check the connection policies and get any refund estimates in writing before they submit anything for you.
Not worth the "deal"
I needed to change one day of travel and their change fee was ridiculous — like four times the ticket cost, I swear I could've bought almost another flight. Their website then went down, which stalled everything, and they told me the alternate date vanished. After a bit of back-and-forth (and me pushing), turns out the date was fine all along, but they'd slap on an absurd admin fee. Service felt sloppy, honestly. I was annoyed, kind of laughing at how bad it got.
