Card was already blocked when I looked — two $2,206 charges from Viator (TripAdvisor). The chat rep couldn't say who tried to charge us and showed no empathy, felt like talking to a bot. Now I'm stuck calling every prepayment vendor and getting a new card. I've had sketchy billing with other booking sites before, but this one left me annoyed and tired of sorting it out.
Kinda sketchy refund
I didn't book this because the fare was suspiciously cheap and their reviews made me hesitate, but I needed to get home for a family emergency. They changed my Bangkok–Phnom Penh leg to some tiny airport and refused a refund, offered credits instead. I used half the credit on another trip, so it sort of worked, but I'm still kinda annoyed and wary.
Port pickup letdown
I found the tour on TripAdvisor after a friend's tip, booked thinking it was sorted — but the local vendor told us last-minute they can't pick up at the port. We had to take taxis (about $100 each way) or rent a car, the excursion fell through and we paid $65 each for a replacement. Customer service was slow, though glad we found a backup.
Useful but inconsistent
I guess I started with it because people kept mentioning it, and after a few trips it's become my go-to for planning. Mostly it delivers what I need — real traveler photos and hands-on reviews — so the info delivery is good, although sometimes listings are stale or the app lags. I had to contact support once; response was slow but helpful in the end. Not flawless, but overall useful, and be ready to refresh or double-check small businesses' hours from another source.
Unexpected rudeness on a slow walk
Halfway through the tour, cane in hand, someone snapped, "why did you sign up for this if you can't walk?" I answered I walk slowly — nothing dramatic — but the tone stung. They told us to meet at Bovaros for drinks in about 20 minutes and that it wouldn't be on her tab, we'd have to pay, which felt odd. I needed this because my knee's been acting up after surgery, so I was already nervous. We left and went back to the hotel; kind of relieved, actually — better than sticking around feeling unwelcome.
Half-packed and annoyed
I was halfway into my suitcase when I noticed I’d booked the wrong date — classic me, right? I hesitated before I even hit confirm because the app’s date picker looked finicky, but I pushed through anyway (bad call). After I realized, I contacted the site and they said they’d ask the hotel about a refund. I called the hotel myself and, surprise, they agreed to release the hold and waive the fee. Cool — only problem, the app still charged me and emails promise a refund that never shows up. So yeah, still waiting; the hotel was great though.
Allowed to book, then blocked — until refund
smooth, maybe too smooth. I was definitely skeptical and annoyed at first, blamed the company for not warning me. The moment I felt satisfied was when they admitted the issue, processed a full refund for the unused return leg and offered a small voucher. Not perfect, but fixed.
The heavy-bag headache
Sat at the gate with a sore lower back and two overstuffed bags — I paid extra for a checked bag because I was relocating and literally needed the space (and my back needs the right pillow), but one of my bookings turned out to be economy light with no checked allowance. I double-checked with the airline, I checked with the booking site, and I kept getting canned chatbot replies saying it was “being reviewed,” then the same wrong confirmation that I had baggage. Felt like talking to a wall, wasted hours on chat. Not perfect, product works when it’s right, but the customer side is clumsy.
Quick delivery, billing snag handled
my card showed two charges for the same ride. I reached out to customer service and, unlike other companies I've dealt with, they answered quickly and were friendly. It took a couple of calls and a small wait, but they agreed to investigate and put a hold on the duplicate. They didn’t make it seamless, and I did have to push a bit, but overall I felt heard and things moved. Would use again for the fast, reliable delivery.
Relief at last
check names closely and be ready to escalate.
Search is broken, sadly
don’t rely on TripAdvisor for hotel searches right now — it kept failing on me. I’ve used it for over a decade to find places when we travel, and this time I needed it badly for a quick family weekend (tight schedule, kids, you know). Instead of a normal search I get a “we’re sorry, something went wrong” screen and they shove me into that “Plan your perfect trip” AI window that asks for dates and location but then just loops back to the error. Used to be super handy, now it’s basically unusable and I had to jump to other sites. Kinda disappointed but hope they fix it soon — saved me before, could again.
Narita gate, my stubborn email and the weird relief
I book flights through Trip.com all the time—work, weekend escapes, whatever—so I showed up at Narita with a printed confirmation from the Japanese Consulate in Vancouver saying that as a Canadian PR I could enter and apply for a shore pass. The gate staff ignored the email and wouldn’t let me board (they insisted you need a visa for a one-way ticket, which turned out to be incorrect). Airline rebooked me for the next day but I covered hotel, food and transport myself. Trip.com has refused compensation despite the consulate note. Also the gate closure felt rushed—seriously, they shut it out of habit. The moment I felt satisfied wasn’t getting money back, it was clutching that email and knowing, quietly, I wasn’t at fault. Small victory, still annoying.
Sitting at my kitchen table wondering if I made a mistake
something came up and I couldn’t travel. Spent over 40 minutes on the phone with an agent and then a manager, explaining the situation, thinking they could at least put the value toward another flight. Nope. The only option I got was “don’t show up,” which basically meant losing the whole ticket. That part stung. On the plus side, the website was easy, the confirmation came right away, and the price was fair — so the ordering and the ticket delivery itself were fine. But customer service felt rigid, no real flexibility or empathy, and that’s the part that ruined it for me. Would I use them again? Maybe, but only if I’m booking something fully refundable or I don’t mind the risk. Heads up if you need flexibility.
Holiday Inn Express Southwark stay
The hotel staff was really nice, the room was comfortable but the shower was a bit strange, and the breakfast was amazing (they just need to remember to close the lids on the hot food).
Cheap railcard purchase
Buying the railcard was super cheap, which was great, but I was bummed when I realized I couldn't use it without an internet connection. It was a real hassle dealing with spotty service on the trains. Next time, I'm going to search for a different website to purchase my railcard from.
Booking on Trip
I just booked my trip on this platform and let me tell you, everything was super clear right from the start. The cancellation policies were laid out nicely, and I liked that I could cancel for free within a specific time limit. The prices were better than other sites, but that's because breakfast wasn't part of the deal. I'm okay with that though, I'd rather try out the local food options while I'm there.
Booking confirmation, cheap pricing, discount during promotion
I'm so glad to have received the booking confirmation, now I can relax knowing everything is set. The price was really affordable, especially with the discounts they offer during promotions. It's a great deal for us customers.
Ticket purchase for Statue of Liberty visit
My experience getting tickets for the Statue of Liberty was great. It was easy and quick, and I liked how I could just scan the QR code to get on the ferry. But, I want to warn others about Battery Park - there are a lot of scammers there. It's better to just ignore them and follow the signs to the Statue of Liberty to stay out of trouble.
Competitive Prices
At first, I had some doubts about booking on a website from overseas, but the great prices on this site convinced me. Booking was easy and hassle-free, everything went smoothly. I'm really happy with the whole experience. I'm excited about our upcoming trip and I know this website's support will make our special 25th-anniversary vacation in Mauritius perfect. Big thanks to the team for their amazing service, we appreciate you making our trip unforgettable.
Great agent, supportive, trustable
That agent is amazing! I've been with them for a while now and they've always been so helpful and reliable. I trust them completely and I tell all my friends and family to use their services. Keep doing what you're doing and best of luck always!
