no welcome drink, no "hey glad you're here", just a kind of blank stare and a key. The air felt heavy, like the AC was giving up; turns out most units weren't even working. Hot, damp rooms, and then a drip—no, a steady leak—somewhere above my sister’s bed. We moved towels around, then asked for a fix. The fix was, well, not a fix. Leaky everywhere, honestly; you could smell the must, the building felt tired and kind of sad.
The mini-fridge didn't chill. I opened it hoping for a cold beer, got disappointment instead. Food was another rollercoaster: undercooked mains, bland sauces, and one night the "special beach dinner" turned into a pre-set, closed menu that didn't match what we were promised. So we ended up wandering off the property to find food that wasn’t questionable. I also had to run out and buy insect repellent — my mother got bitten in the room, which is a lovely memory to have at 50. Staff were polite-ish but seemed overwhelmed and kinda directionless; requests bounced around with no follow-through. On the flip side, the beach itself was fine — soft sand and that familiar ocean smell — and that did lift moods a little, so, credit where it's due. But overall it felt like a place that once had charm and just... stopped caring. For a milestone weekend with a big group, that lack of basic comfort and follow-up mattered. I left relieved to be home, with funny stories, sure, but not the kind you hope for when you're celebrating. Would I go back? Not unless things change.Mixed stay, some good bits but a few big misses
only two spots pour the good stuff, and neither is where people actually hang out. One of those bars is inside where the AC was on the fritz for almost the whole stay, and the bartender clocks out at 11 PM. The other one is out by the cabana area, but the covering over the cabanas is too short and just feels half-baked. So you pay extra and then you’re trekking to get what you thought you’d have nearby.
Our room was on the fourth floor and that exposed another annoyance: the ice machine and the water dispenser didn’t work above the first floor. We checked multiple floors, asked, nothing got fixed in six days. Phones in the room? Don’t rely on them. We were told to call the front desk to have someone from concierge come grab our luggage on checkout — that didn’t happen because the phones didn’t work, so we hauled our own bags down. Little things like that add up and make logistics annoying.
Pools close at 6 PM, which felt odd — most of us don’t want to be in the pool during peak sun. The lazy river was probably the most disappointing: half of it had no jets and the rest barely moved. Drinks are hit or miss too; we ordered a margarita that tasted like pineapple. My wife is allergic to pineapple and noticed it right away — an awkward moment, but thankfully she caught it before anything worse happened.
Room service menu is very limited (think chicken burger and hot dogs) so don’t expect culinary variety late at night. And if you come with a big group, plan ahead for the specialty restaurants. We were split up at the steakhouse for the last seating even though part of our party was already there — poor coordination on their part and a bummer when you want to eat together.
On the plus side, the spa was excellent and we had a great treatment, and overall the property felt clean. Most of the staff were friendly and helpful, honestly. Just a few teams — the steakhouse servers especially — could use better judgment with large groups. Emotionally I left a bit frustrated but not crushed; would I go back? Maybe, but only after confirming a few things first.Slow check-in, spotty service
30. Parents waited until 6, and when they finally got in the bathroom had no running water. They had to request twice before anyone fixed it, and it wasn't sorted until about 10 pm. That's not just slow, that's poor delivery of a basic service.
Dinner that night was awkward too: the staff couldn't seat our whole group together and split us up across tables. Little things kept slipping — asked a server for a soda, she forgot, we asked again and were told to get it myself. I did. Not proud of that, but I wasn't going to sit thirsty. Next morning, asked for a simple "happy birthday" note at breakfast and was told they don't do that. Over the years I've stayed at several resorts and that's usually handled; this one treated it like a weird request.
We tried to reserve an a la carte table and were told it was impossible, then pushed into the buffet. That evening felt the first bit of welcome but still nothing on the birthday front — no staff acknowledgement, not even a small cupcake. Housekeeping also missed a fridge refill I specifically asked for; had to chase someone down the hall to get two sodas handed over with an attitude.
On the positive side, two guys at the deli near the pool — Enmanuel "El Flaco" and Tony — were consistently good. They actually delivered friendly, helpful service and show how it can be done. Overall I'm disappointed by the inconsistent delivery and customer service; a few staff are excellent, but the general experience was underwhelming and left a sour note on a family celebration.Pool-side missing shoes — and then a small moment of relief
I was half in, half out of the pool, towel hanging off my shoulder, when I noticed my Crocs were gone. Not the usual flip-flops, but a weird limited-run pair I actually liked. For a second I thought I’d just left them somewhere dumb, then I walked the deck and realized nope — shirt and room key were still where I’d left them, shoes vanished. Nobody else was around except two people in the pool I’d been chatting with and a couple of cleaners; two security guys were pacing since it was getting close to closing. That’s when the irritation kicked in, and honestly the worry too — you start thinking theft right away when nothing else adds up.
