pay up or no clearing. That was frustrating. I use short bursts with it, five minutes at a time, and suddenly that simple fix became a subscription gate. I contacted support. They basically washed their hands of it. I tried to explain I bought it because clearing codes was a free feature and had been for three to four years. I even sent screenshots showing the marketing at purchase. Their reply was curt and unhelpful. So I got legal advice. In short, if they advertised that reset was included and then removed it without notice, that looks like a breach. I’m not a lawyer but I did the homework and the advice backed me up. There’s also the update saga — I bought the “latest” paid update because they said it would add modules for my VW. It didn’t work. Again, no real help from the company, and I had to chase a refund through the app store. Emotionally, it’s just disappointing. It felt like a small, dependable thing that turned into a hassle and cost. I get companies need revenue. I also get customers shouldn’t be surprised by sudden removal of core features. If you rely on this for quick resets to avoid pointless trips to a mechanic, expect friction now. I’d recommend holding off until they make the policy clearer or give existing users a fair heads up. I’m keeping the device for now because it still reads codes, but the trust is gone and that matters more than the money.
