TigerDirect was founded in 1985, but not as a retailer of electronics. Instead, TigerDirect published utility software. After being sold to what is now Systemax, TigerDirect moved from publishing to retail, selling software, computers and books.
A few years ago, you could visit a TigerDirect store. But in 2015, TigerDirect closed many of its stores in a turn to online retailing. When Systemax was acquired by PCM, TigerDirect also closed its remaining stores, making a full commitment to online retailing.
TigerDirect has not been without controversy. The retailer has sued Apple and has been sued by Dell and the State of Florida. Dell took TigerDirect to court because it allegedly sold outdated Dell computers as new. Florida’s attorney general—Bill McCollum—accused TigerDirect of not providing rebates to customers. To top it all off, the founders of TigerDirect, Carl and Gilbert Fiorentino, were convicted of fraud, sentenced to serve time in jail and pay $35 million to Systemax.
Because of these controversies, it becomes especially important for consumers to know whether they can trust TigerDirect. Is it true that TigerDirect sells outdated products? Does TigerDirect fail to provide rebates? The reviews on this website can help you resolve those questions.
More pertinent to US-Reviews, TigerDirect has also been accused of editing the reviews on its website. According to CBC, a Canadian TV channel, TigerDirect edited the review of one of its customers, deleting this part of the original review: “I advise caution in terms of buying from TigerDirect i [sic] you are expecting any service after you make your purchase.”
US-Reviews will never edit anyone’s review, and is therefore a good place to find out whether you should be cautious when buying from TigerDirect.
