I almost talked myself into booking because we needed a place that could handle a family trip without extra work on our end. I had some doubts about the price and the “luxury” label, but figured the concierge setup would make it easier. It didn’t. Once we got there, the house looked tired and a few things felt like they were being held together temporarily. More annoying was that the listing and the actual service didn’t line up. Every time we asked for help, we got vague replies or had to explain the issue again to someone new. Nobody seemed to own the problem. For what we paid, that’s hard to shrug off. I expected polished and dependable; it felt more like a rental managed at arm’s length. By the end, my original hesitation made a lot more sense. I’d look elsewhere next time.
Those windows won me over
I’ll admit, I was a little uneasy about booking for two whole months, especially after a past rental looked much nicer online than it did in person. This place turned out to be the opposite. The apartment felt surprisingly roomy from day one, and the huge windows made the living room and main bedroom feel bright even on gray London mornings. We ended up using the little front terrace constantly—coffee, snacks, watching people go by, that kind of thing. The beds were genuinely comfortable, not just “fine for a rental,” and the sheets were a nice surprise too. Having groceries waiting in the fridge saved us on arrival. Weekly cleaning was reliable, and the OFS team answered quickly whenever we had a question. Getting around was easy with the Tube and buses nearby. I’d stay again, though I might avoid festival weekend next time.
Relief at the hotel
I was annoyed, sure, but also relieved to stop arguing about the basics.
Team did the heavy lifting
I heard about onefinestay from a friend who uses them in Paris. I checked the site and liked the photos. Booking was straightforward. The descriptions were detailed enough to decide. I’ve stayed with them several times in Paris now. Locations are reliable. Listings match reality most of the time. Amenities arrive as promised — linens, basics, a small starter of coffee and snacks — nothing fancy, but useful if you get in late.
Not what it used to be
this used to be a reliable option for big family stays, but after this trip I wouldn’t count on them for a stress-free week. I’ve booked with them several times over the years and usually it went fine, which is why this felt especially disappointing — it wasn’t one small hiccup, it was a string of them that added up.
Unexpected mess and an illegal fee
I booked a month in a high-end LA place via Plum Guide / Onefinestay and expected a certain level of readiness. What we walked into felt like the owners had just left in a hurry. There was food in the freezer, their car was parked where our spot should have been, and personal stuff was scattered around. Outdoor areas were not cleaned (BBQ looked like it hadn’t been used by guests in months) and we literally had to move the owners’ clothes out of closets to make room. The handover team did show up and tried to help, and to their credit they were earnest, but there’s only so much you can do when the property wasn’t prepared as a rental to begin with. So that part was frustrating — more house-sit than a professional short-term rental, honestly.
