I first found Brisks through a recommendation in a DIY Facebook group, and honestly, the price for 50 bags of concrete looked decent. I was a little nervous ordering that much online, but the confirmation said delivery was scheduled for March 27, and I even got a reminder text the day before. So far, so reassuring. I took a day off work, rented a cement mixer, cleared the driveway—the whole exciting “adult weekend project” thing. Their delivery window was 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., and the website says you’ll get an update, or no update means an afternoon delivery. Well, 3 p.m. came around and I finally got through by phone after several tries. That’s when I was told the courier had lost the pallet. Lost it. Fifty bags of concrete apparently wandered off somewhere. No call, no text, no email from anyone. The order tracking in the Shop app didn’t help, and the live chat mentioned online seems not to exist. I’m now out the mixer rental and a vacation day, waiting on a refund. Pretty frustrating, to say the least.
Not Quite the Black I Expected
Bottom line, I’m stuck with gravel that isn’t the color I thought I was buying. I ordered 800 kg of “black” basalt because the photos made it look like it would really pop against my white wall. When the bag arrived, I followed the advice to wash the chips. At first I tried doing it in the bulk bag, but it was clear they needed to be spread out to get properly cleaned. Once laid and rinsed, they looked great—dark and close to what I expected. Then they dried. Instead of black, they became a fairly standard gray. Wet versus dry makes a massive difference with these stones, and the website should show both versions. I contacted customer service and sent a photo showing one side wet and the other dry. The representative actually asked which half was the product I bought, which kind of proved my point. Then I was told I couldn’t return them because they had been laid. But that was the only practical way to wash them properly. My later emails were unanswered. They’re usable, sure, but replacing 800 kg would cost too much, so I’ve had to carry on with them.
The moment I stopped worrying
a deep dark color, a good mix of sizes, and thankfully not loads of dusty filler or sand. That was when I finally relaxed a little—okay, this is actually going to work for the yard. The driver was helpful too. Nothing overly fancy, but he checked where I wanted everything left and made sure access was clear first. It sounds basic, but after a couple messy experiences elsewhere, I appreciated it. The price was a big reason I gave them a try, admittedly, and I expected there would be some catch. There really wasn’t. The stone looks great now that it’s spread out, and after a few rainy days it still looks clean and solid. The delivery window was a little broad, so I’d keep that in mind, but overall I’m very happy with how it turned out.
