    Small cooler, big hassle

I bought a 16L mini cooler because I was moving and needed something small to keep meds and a couple of drinks cold on long car trips — my back gets bad and I can’t be stopping every five minutes. The cooler itself barely runs; on the highest setting the fan sounds terrible, like it’s scraping or something. Delivery was okay, it arrived when they said it would, no drama there, which I appreciated. The real problem was the phone support. I called to ask about a return and ended up talking to one person — Joanne, I think — who didn’t let me finish a single sentence. She kept talking over me, which just made me raise my voice to get a word in, and that made things worse; I swore and hung up, not proud of that but you get the idea. I called back a few minutes later hoping for someone else and it was the same person again. After a bit of chasing and explaining on email (slow replies), they finally agreed to a refund. So yes, I lost time and patience, lost a little bit of trust, but at least I got my money back. If you need something quick and quiet for health reasons, check reviews closely and be ready for awkward customer service.

Sketchy seller, but problem solved in the end

the oven I got from that third‑party seller was junk at first, and the seller's support was a mess — but I did get it sorted eventually. My neighbor Ross, who’s 76 and not great with tech, asked me to handle the order for him, so I’m writing this on his behalf. We bought a black 17‑liter halogen oven/air fryer. When it arrived the plastic lid didn’t sit right and the knobs were stiff as if glued. Couldn’t adjust them without wrestling. Not great.
I repacked it and started a return through Tesco Marketplace like the site said. I even ordered a replacement from Amazon because Ross needed something that worked, and that one turned up within 24 hours and was fine. Meanwhile the third‑party seller went quiet. Tesco emailed that the seller would contact us in two working days. Four days later: nothing. I tried calling the number Tesco gave and ended up in loops, back and forth between tech and business teams. One rep barely spoke English and basically said they couldn’t help. I got suspicious they were dodging returns, hoping you’d give up.
So I took it to my local Tesco in person, left the unit at reception, and after a bit of pushing they processed the return and refunded us. It wasn’t quick, and it was annoyingly stressful, but at least Tesco picked up the slack in the end and Amazon’s replacement did the job. If you’re buying this kind of thing, stick to vendors with good reviews or go straight to a big retailer. If you do use a marketplace, be ready to chase things down — annoying, but workable.

    Second chance, same headache

it cooled the room, felt solid enough in the hand, the display was straightforward, and it didn’t sound like a jet engine (just a normal hum). I liked the controls, the vents moved smoothly, and it felt like a decent little unit for a bedroom. Then about a year in it started blowing warm air. I followed every troubleshooting step in the manual (you know, filter check, reset, drain, the usual) and nothing fixed it. That’s when things began to fall apart — not with the machine itself, but with the whole after-sales side.
I contacted the company, and they were basically hands-off, telling me to deal with Amazon. Amazon refunded me, which was fine, so I decided to give the brand another shot and ordered their 12,000 BTU model — expecting stronger cooling for the living room. Physically the bigger unit looked good: heavier, sturdier casing, larger louvers, digital controls with a couple more modes. When it worked, it pushed out cold air that reached the far corner of the room faster than the smaller unit did. The fan settings felt responsive and the thermostat seemed accurate. For its intended use — cooling a mid-size living area — it performed well when functioning. But it arrived DOA. Nothing. Not powering up, no lights, no fan spin. That’s where the experience went sideways in a way I didn’t expect.
Dealing with support felt like pushing a boulder uphill. I called multiple times, asked repeatedly to speak to a manager, and got stuck with the same person who, honestly, seemed out of their depth. Small mistakes started piling up: incorrect collection dates, contradictory messages, and zero tracking info. There was a rep on Amazon messages — Charlene — who kept telling me it must be an isolated problem because her unit was fine. That answer didn’t help fix a dead air conditioner, and it felt dismissive. I was doing half their troubleshooting for them, sending photos, serial numbers, times I was available for pickup, and still things got scheduled for the wrong day. One courier (DPD) apparently couldn’t find my address, even though I’d given the postcode and it’s a straightforward place; later I discovered the seller had moved premises and hadn’t updated the return address in Amazon’s system. That explains the failed delivery, but it didn’t excuse the lack of proactive communication.
In the mess I even paid £40 out of pocket to return the unit on advice from Amazon support, because I started running out of patience. I tracked the courier to an attempted delivery date (15th of August) and then got a message from the company saying the driver couldn’t find anyone at their address; that made me worry it was a scam. I reported the situation to Action Fraud because of the delays and the oddities in communication. Eventually, a manager named Reni got involved and actually did the things that should have been done from the start: contacted UPS, located the package, rerouted it to the correct return address, and followed up properly. That salvage work mattered and it was appreciated — it’s the main reason I didn’t write them off completely.
So, to sum up: the units themselves (when working) feel solid enough, cool effectively, and are user-friendly. The bigger model has noticeably more power and does the job for a medium living room. But the customer service process was frustrating, slow, and inconsistent. If you buy, be prepared to push for escalation if anything goes wrong, keep receipts, screenshots, and be ready to chase them — or even pay to return things yourself. Emotionally, it was tiring and a little infuriating; I wanted a simple replacement and instead got bureaucracy and dropped balls. Reni’s intervention did help, so there’s at least one competent person there, but overall I’m left wary of trusting them again.
