I saw ScentCrafters mentioned in a Facebook group by a friend who swore by them, and honestly I was half-intrigued, half-wary — especially after my go-to maker (RIP Waft) disappeared. I mailed in a tiny 3x5 card wrapped like it was a fragile relic (foil + ziploc — yes, I was dramatic about it) and asked for a match. What showed up first smelled like a watered-down version of what I sent. I bristled. Told them so. Taylor (one of the owners) replied, polite but a little defensive, and asked me to “macerate” the bottles — basically wait for them to age. That felt like perfume-speak for “give it time,” and I admit I rolled my eyes. I sent the samples back, made my point, and waited. Then they actually sent a redo. This one needed a day or two to settle, but it got way closer to the card — not perfect, but close enough that my initial doubts mellowed into mild pride for my persistence. Communication could’ve been warmer (and less accusatory at first), shipping was fine, price felt fair. So yeah, rocky start, but in the end I’m mostly pleased — still a few bumps, but not a total loss.
Quietly impressed
First spray was at my kitchen counter, pretty unromantic, but that’s when I knew — it wasn’t just okay, it actually felt like a step up from the other indie scents I’ve tried. It has this clean, grown-up vibe, the kind I’d pick if I wanted something that reads a little expensive without shouting. Shipping and processing took longer than I hoped (covid delays, yes), so I nearly lost faith, but their reply to my email within a day calmed me down. The moment I walked out and caught a whiff on my sleeve I smiled — that’s when I felt satisfied, honestly. I’ve had worse from flashier brands that promise the moon and deliver soap, so this was a pleasant change. If you’re customizing, remember it’s a gamble — your choices matter, not a failing of the maker. Small shops are getting hit right now and knee-jerk bad reviews can be unfair. Glad I gave them a shot; grateful it turned out well enough to buy again.
