Funny how a quick sizing check turned into a 45-minute lecture. I stopped by the new High Street store to try the Rab Microlight Alpine jacket because online sizes are basically roulette. I said I needed something for walking the dog, nothing heroic. Somehow the salesperson decided I needed an XXL since, apparently, I don’t have a “proper climber’s shape.” Then came a long detour about his car and why that supposedly explained the jacket. I kept waiting for the useful part. It never arrived. I’d been unsure about ordering online, but now that seems like the peaceful option.
More Careful Than Expected
Halfway through inspecting my old board, the tech pointed out a couple of base scars I’d honestly stopped noticing. I brought it to Castleford TSA right before a trip, expecting a standard tune, but they took a more careful look than I expected. The main thing I appreciated was how little material they removed from the base; with an older snowboard, that matters. The P-TEX work came back smooth, the 88-degree edges felt clean without being overly sharp, and the wax made it noticeably quicker on snow. I did have to wait around a bit longer than planned, so it wasn’t flawless. Still, the surprise was that they also sorted the annoying heel lift in my left boot. That alone saved me a headache.
Next-day delivery promise fell flat
I hesitated before ordering, but the Men’s Denali jacket looked right and the site said next-day delivery, so I went for it. Then nothing—no update, no explanation, just silence. I had to contact them myself after the delivery date had passed, which is pretty frustrating. Their reply didn’t really help, and customer service came across as dismissive rather than apologetic. By then I didn’t even want the jacket anymore, but canceling didn’t seem to get much attention either. Maybe it was a one-off, but I wouldn’t order here again. If timing matters, I’d probably shop somewhere else.
No pressure, just genuinely helpful
I’d happily head back to the Milton Keynes shop when I’m ready to buy. Lucy made the whole snowboard search feel way less confusing, honestly. I came in not totally sure what I needed for riding at the SnowDome, and she talked me through boards and bindings without pushing the pricey stuff or doing the usual sales pitch. I visited twice and got to try several boards on the slope, which was a really nice touch, especially since there was no fee. Funny enough, the setup I liked most was probably one of the more expensive ones anyway. Didn’t purchase this time, but they’ve definitely earned my future business.
A simple return turned into a hassle
I wouldn’t rush back to this store, mostly because the return process became a much bigger headache than it needed to be. I bought something with cash for an upcoming hiking trip, but my plans changed after my back started acting up. The item was unused, unworn, and returned within the 21-day window I’d been told about. What caught me off guard was finding out that I couldn’t get my cash back right away. Instead, I was told I’d need to wait for a check, and then possibly wait again for it to clear. That really should have been explained when I paid. The manager I dealt with seemed defensive and not interested in finding a reasonable solution, which made an already frustrating situation worse. Thankfully, someone from the head office customer service team was genuinely helpful, listened properly, and got things resolved. That unexpected help saved the experience a little, but the Bristol store itself left a bad impression.
