don’t expect a straightforward sale — I bought a phone and ended up stuck. I use my phone every day for work, maps, calls with family, and quick banking; having it effectively unusable by choice was a real nuisance. The rest explains how that happened.
When I checked out online they asked me to "sign for the phone" with an e-sign box. I thought it was the usual receipt thing, but the signature linked to a multi‑page contract I never actually saw in full, nor did they email me a copy. All I remember is a tiny signature box on the screen. After a few weeks the device started behaving like it wasn’t fully mine: it was network‑locked and I couldn’t port my number out to another carrier. That’s the big problem — you pay upfront but the lock makes switching near impossible.
I tried to port out and got bounced around with fake port attempts and numbers that kept getting rejected. Customer service had zero idea about their own policies; reps repeated scripts, contradicted each other, and often insisted stores could help when they couldn’t. Stores told me that if the order was placed online they were independent and wouldn’t touch it. Meanwhile the phone support centers were overseas subcontractors who wouldn’t admit they were outside the US; you get misdirection rather than answers. I also received a few pieces of written correspondence in another language without translation (odd, since I’m in the U.S.).
Long story short: if you value being able to change carriers or want clear paperwork, this was a bad experience. I ended up filing disputes with my bank and contacting the FCC. If you do buy, save everything, ask for the full contract before signing, and be ready to push back; it’s annoying and time‑consuming. I was frustrated but not surprised that this dragged on longer than it should have been.Dead phone overnight, still salty
I’d worried about compatibility and whether support would actually follow through. On the call they walked me through swapping the SIM and warned the conversation would drop when the new card kicked in. I gave them my number to call back. The phone went silent and I never heard from that tech. After that it wouldn’t make reliable connections and couldn’t call Boost. I tried the online chat from my laptop but couldn’t get past the security code because my phone wasn’t receiving texts. They told me to use a friend’s phone, which I had to do, but it was late so I had to wait until morning to sort most things out. I’ve had decent luck with other carriers in the past, so this felt amateur. Bottom line: my pre-purchase doubts didn’t evaporate — they were confirmed. Frustrating, felt stranded, and a bit annoyed that one evening without my phone became such a thing to fix.
