I didn't expect to mention Birmingham but hey, that's where I am and where this all happened. Our contract with VM was ending so we looked around and found YouFibre — their site was dead simple so I signed up fast. I went for the one-year broadband-only deal, You2000, which says 1800 Mbps up and down for £30, and honestly that price felt ridiculous. I signed up earlier this week and literally yesterday an engineer called to say someone rescheduled and he could swing by sooner. I said yes, because I didn't want any downtime, and Stephen showed up and had everything running in about an hour. Internet was on right away, which was a relief. Not perfect yet.
First few speed checks over Wi-Fi peaked around 870 Mbps up and 780 Mbps down; not the full 1800 but fine for what I do. I game on Ethernet and haven't had issues. So far I'm happy and a bit surprised — giving 4/5 for now. I'll keep checking Wi-Fi speeds over the next days and will open a ticket if nothing improves.Switch saga that finally settled down
account credit to cover the termination, they take care of the switch. Then months go by and I notice double payments. Long story short, the old provider never got cancelled, and I had to do it myself and pay an early exit fee. Communication was the worst bit — emails ignored, calls dropping after long waits, basically radio silence. That said, after a bunch of nagging I did get someone to admit the switch failed and they eventually refunded the termination fee and fixed the billing. The actual installation of the new service was fine — tech showed up on time and setup was quick, so delivery itself wasn’t the problem. I'm relieved it worked out in the end, grateful they made good eventually, but the road there was messy and annoying.
Mid-binge Wi‑Fi drama
Funny thing — I actually signed up for this because my neighbor kept raving about how fast the internet was. For a few months it was great, like “oh nice” level, streaming without thinking about it. Then one afternoon I get this weird email saying my direct debit details changed to some random account number. I shrugged, assumed a typo. Then another email saying the change was wrong. When I tried to log in, my account showed up in someone else’s name. Yep, someone else. Cue panic, screenshots, phone calls. I called support, sent proof, and was promised a reply “within 48 hours.” Three days later I get an email threatening to cut my internet unless I “update” the account. I call again, they say it’s been escalated and someone will call me back. Two more days pass and my internet is off. I called and the rep kept telling me to pay an outstanding balance via a link — balance £0.00. I kept saying I can’t log in because the account shows another name. She said again “48 hours” and would reinstate until the 26th — but if I didn’t pay (which I literally couldn’t) they’d cut it again. It felt like being ghosted by my own ISP. After a messy week of repeating myself to different people, someone finally did sort it, reinstated service, and agreed to close the account so I could move on. I’m honestly relieved — and yeah, a bit grateful it ended up fixed — but the whole thing was exhausting. If you’re thinking of switching because of a neighbor’s praise, just be ready to chase them if anything odd happens. The speed and day‑to‑day use were fine, but beware the support loop and account-security weirdness.
Polite help, frustrating hours
the system lets you type outside their 8am–8pm hours but then bounces you with "we're only open 8–8" if no agent was assigned before cutoff, so you can end up waiting. Use it for quick fixes, works well, just watch the odd hours.
