a huge housing development sat literally on the property boundary and by 8am the site noise and music from the workers started. Sitting in the garden or trying to play with the kids wasn’t possible without constant interruptions. I contacted the company right away. The rep was polite, calm and seemed to care, but that’s where it ended — they didn’t push the owners or take real responsibility, just pointed me to their booking terms and eventually arranged a token refund after a lot of back-and-forth. It felt like boxes checked, not a solution. Delivery in this case meant the actual condition you get when you arrive, and that didn’t match the listing. First impression = great; first morning = ruined. If you value customer follow-up and accurate listings, be cautious — they don’t seem to monitor properties or stand up for guests. I’d think twice before booking again.
Warm welcome, small hiccups
a few worn bits in the cottage and the pups shed a lot, so pack a brush. We'll miss the calm, the dogs and the human kindness; honestly, we want to go back.
Wrong kind of "retreat"
I stood in the tiny bathroom and my feet slipped. Not dramatic, just a slow slide, but it made me uneasy every time I used the shower. The floor felt greasy, not grippy, and when I leafed through the guestbook I saw others had said the same thing. That should have been fixed. It wasn't. The place is pretty to look at. Inside it often feels like style was picked over sense. The fire escape is a real worry. To get out you'd have to climb on a low piece of furniture and wriggle through a window that doesn't open wide enough for an adult. Maybe a small person could squeeze through, maybe. My sister and I are in our 70s. We would not have been getting out in a hurry. There's a drop to the yard, and the gate at the bottom was locked, so it felt like a trap. Slow panic, not loud panic. The kitchen is functional but sparse. No sharp knives, no decent pans, weird missing basics you'd expect for preparing simple meals. The nearest pub is a 30-minute walk, and the little shop is even farther. So it's not as convenient as the brochure suggests. I paid a lot for what they call "luxury" and I expected the small, important things to be sorted. They weren't. I appreciated the quiet and the views, honestly. But I kept thinking about safety and about how little tweaks would fix most of the problems. If you go, ask specifically about the shower and the escape route. Check recent guest comments. I wish they'd take that stuff seriously. It would make the place actually relaxing.
Tiny treehouse, big heart
clear directions the day before, an easy arrival routine, and a tidy key drop that saved us a lot of fumbling. Debbie, the host, checked in without being overbearing, asked if we needed anything, and even did a small, very thoughtful birthday thing that genuinely made my day. I’ve had stays with hosts who were distant or slow to respond, so it was a nice change to have quick replies and actual follow-through. Delivery of the booking — meaning communication, arrival info, and the little extras that showed up — was spot on. Customer service felt personal, not scripted; you could tell she cares about the place and the guests. The cabin’s décor is charming and the spot is peaceful, perfect for unplugging. If there’s any downside, it’s that prices felt a touch higher than some budget options, but given the care and the way things were handled, I’d say it was worth it. Overall I’m grateful it worked out so well — we left happy, relaxed, and pretty sure we’ll go back. If you care about friendly hosts and hassle-free arrival, this one’s a solid pick.
A beautiful view, loud surprises
I gotta be honest — the place itself is gorgeous, but the stay felt like a mix of “wow” and “ugh.” We pulled up, kids excited, and right at the door there were two mid-size spiders. Nothing huge, but the kids freaked out and that little moment just set a weird tone. I’ve stayed at other coastal places where pest control was a thing, so I was surprised. The bigger issue, though, was the foghorn. At night it was nonstop and way louder than I expected — like someone hitting repeat on a giant horn. It woke everyone, over and over, and made it hard to actually relax. I tried to shrug it off, thinking it’s part of lighthouse life, but after a few hours you get tired and cranky. On the flip side, the light and the view in the morning were worth staying for; you can’t beat that coastline. I’m mildly annoyed but not furious — the setting saved the trip in a way. If they tightened up pest checks and maybe gave a heads-up about foghorn schedules (or offered earplugs!), this would be a solid spot. As it stands, I’d recommend it for the scenery, just be ready for some old-lighthouse quirks.
