About Lemonade For Homeowners And For Renters
Lemonade is one of the first bigger peer-to-peer insurance companies for homeowners who live in the United States. The Lemonade insurance company has been trying to stay away from the P2P label, but there is absolutely no doubt that it operates within the peer-to-peer sphere. And what does peer-to-peer mean? The peer-to-peer insurance system allows a group of people to pool their resources by taking a collective pot and putting their premiums in it. When a person who belongs to that group decides to make a claim, they are allowed to take some money out of the pot. That being said, customers are grouped into peer groups, with each group pooling its premiums to cover each other's claims.

I switched to Lemonade for my Homeowner insurance 6 months ago and the price for similar coverage was almost 40% cheaper than the company I was with before (Geico/Hartford). Two weeks ago, there was an attempted robbery in my house and the backdoor window was smashed and patio door damaged. I was a bit worried when I reached out to lemonade as I first had to deal with their AI that was not much help. I started stressing maybe I had made a mistake switching to a cheaper/younger company. But then I was transferred to humans and every single person I spoke to was WONDERFUL! They all started out by telling me how sorry they were this was happening to my family and how we must feel stressed and worried and that they would do everything they could to help. 2 weeks later, I have the money for repairs on my account already. They reviewed the claim promptly, provided support and updates, let me get quotes from local vendors and approved the replacement door I selected SUPER fast. It was EASY, FAST and with a lot of kindness at every step. I am super happy with them.
My experience was great and the process of doing my claim and receiving funds was amazingly easy and fast. Unfortunately my apartment complex had a bad fire and we had smoke damage. It wasn’t my building on fire but after almost 2 weeks the smell didn’t go away. It settled into the clothes, beds and toys. I filed on Monday and the claim was processed by Tuesday. Funds was entered into my bank account by Wednesday. I truly appreciate their hassle free speedy service. I only got the insurance because my apartment complex forced me to...but thank God they did 😩
After reading their policy (called policy 2.0), I was convinced. Love the way they explain their policy so you actually understand what will be insured (and what not). Good low rate, now just "waiting for something to happen" and if their service is they say it is, I will def come back here and talk about that!
I was skeptical but the bots matched my existing insurance exactly. I even increase coverage and still the cost was 40% less than my existing bundle insurance provider. Lemonade is a no brainer, cutting out the middle man and putting that money back in my pocket.
did NOT purchase because they turned me down after all
After I was going thru the entire buying process INCLUDING credit card information and downloading their app I got the email below. They have known my address all the way. That is the first thing they ask for. They did NOT turn me down till I gave them ALL my information. I was shopping for a new home insurance. I compared their rate with others just to learn when I was ready to buy that they would NOT cover my property. Complete BS, Unethical
Regulation requires us to follow strict guidelines when it comes to determining which properties we can or cannot insure.
At the moment, we don't cover homes in proximity to wildfires risk areas.
Unfortunately, that means we won’t be able to cover your property at this time.
This insurance is a joke. Storm damage caused water in the basement, developed mold everywhere. Wouldn't even cover my storage to get my items out because I have to move ASAP due to the mold. I also paid for additional mold coverage. They took 3 weeks to even make a decision all while my belongings are destroyed! Thanks Lemonade for wasting my time and money!!!!!
My daughter had renters insurance with them with the monthly premium being charged to her pre-paid PayPal card. She lost her job because of the pandemic, it took almost 4 months to start getting unemployment and she missed payments so they canceled her policy. Instead of reinstating the policy when we paid the past due amount the forced her to get a NEW policy but won’t accept her PayPal or Greendot card so I used my bank debit card. Policy agreement was for debit for premium on 3rd of every month. 3 days ago I see a charge for $6.55 from them. Their explanation? It’s a “deferred payment fee” from the canceled policy that can’t be stopped, even though that policy was canceled. This fee was NEVER charged the whole time the policy was active. I’d stay as far away from this company as you can.
The quote and policy process was very quick. However, when I wanted to switch from escrow to direct payment, it was frustrating. I wrote an email that took a week to respond to. the real frustration is there is NO PHONE FOR CUSTOMER SERVICE!! Even CHAT service did not respond. So, I am dealing with virtual people who I do not know if they exist. I am on the border line with my experience with this "Virtual" company. They sure need to improve on their customer service and have a way to contact them by PHONE! End of the day POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE with result in LOSS of CUSTOMERS.
I am a mortgage lender and HATE when clients want to use this company. I have had 3 policy's dropped after closing escrow which leaves our clients stressed and in a scrabble to find a new insurance company. I will always share my experience and try to explain the absolute horror of this company.
The worst group of fools you will ever deal with. Don't believe all the talk about getting a quote in minutes. Always has to go to review, then come back and ask many questions about the house. Then more review with their database. Come back with a coverage and amount, tell them OK. Never hear from them again in over a week. Policy states in review. Sent emails and help requests, asking why is it still in review, and not one was answered. 3 sent yesterday and not one answered. YOU HAVE NO PHONE NUMBER TO CALL! If you can't even get them to answer a question about getting your new policy, then what is going to happen with a claim. Go to you local indepent dealer! You can talk to agent directly and they a way cheaper than this poor example of a insurance company
Read the fine print brought this insurance when we brought our first home because we had it prior for renters insurance. Recently a storm caused a tree to fall on our house and when I called them they said they would only give $500 to remove the tree. I will be changing insurance companies at the end of the term. This was an act of God nothing we did to the house. It has now been five days and we still have yet to have a claims adjuster come and look at the damage to our property. Your claim is handled with a bot. And email is the main way communication is made even when you call they tell you they will call you back. Very Scary and frustrating especially when you don’t know what the outcome will be
