By the time the rear hub failed for a second time, I’d already decided I’ll probably buy locally next time. The bike itself was fine at first, and I was actually pretty happy with the purchase. I ordered it from Merlin in April 2020, it arrived in Canada a few weeks later, and it became my regular commuter through Montreal’s warmer months. I also used it for the occasional gravel ride on weekends, nothing especially extreme.
Price changed before the wheels even showed up
I placed my order for the Token Zenith Konax Pro Carbon Clincher wheelset on September 22, and as of September 29 I still hadn’t received it, so I obviously hadn’t been able to try it yet. I was looking forward to fitting the wheels and getting a first feel for them, but the delivery situation kind of took over the whole experience. What bothered me was seeing the exact same wheelset drop from €1,169.18 to €1,052.26 while my order was still in transit. That is a pretty noticeable difference. I contacted customer service hoping they could adjust the price or offer some kind of credit. Their solution was to return the wheels and order again. That doesn’t really work when I would have to pay roughly 20% tax, plus return shipping, which they couldn’t even estimate. They also said those costs would not be refunded. Ordering itself was straightforward, but the response felt very rigid. A small price adjustment would have been a much more reasonable fix.
A race day nearly ruined by shipping and silence
stress. The part didn’t show up when it should have, tracking went weird and eventually the parcel ended up who-knows-where. I messaged the support person, Steve, who said he’d refund the extra delivery if it didn’t arrive the next day. I warned him that tracking looked like it had been sent to the wrong region. Then radio silence for a while. Later he got back saying a family bereavement had made things messy (understandable, truly), but then changed tack and refused the refund because I’d opened a PayPal claim for the delivery cost. That felt…off. I get that courier mistakes happen — I’ve had great and awful courier experiences elsewhere — but when the shop is the middleman you expect them to help, not to duck. Still waiting on the promised refund weeks later, and honestly I was left juggling race prep while chasing emails. A bit of human empathy and clear comms would’ve gone a long way. I’m not trying to be dramatic, just annoyed and tired of being bounced around. If you want something stress-free, I’d shop around; this was not the smoothest experience.
That delivery actually saved the day
the delivery and the service actually turned the whole mess around. I phoned support because I couldn't even log into the ghost account, explained the weird duplicate-account / points nightmare, and after the awkward hold music a real person walked me through canceling the wrong order and merging (well, sort of) the situation. They didn't fix the awkward design choice, sure, but the rep was calm, fixed the immediate problem, and gave me a tracking number for the replacement order so I wouldn't be left guessing. Delivery arrived quicker than I expected and in good condition, which honestly made me breathe easier after the earlier back-and-forth. I will say, I have had worse experiences with other retailers where you get passed around like a parcel—this one wasn't like that; someone actually stayed on the line and sorted it. Price-wise it felt a bit fiddly because of the reward thresholds and me trying to game free shipping (lesson learned: the math is annoying and the site doesn’t help), but in the end I got what I wanted without losing hours of my life. So yeah, initially skeptical, mildly irritated, muttering about PayPal emails and phantom accounts, but the phone call and same-week delivery changed my tune. Not perfect—still scratching my head about how the extra account happened—but if you care most about your order arriving intact and having a helpful person on the other end of the line, this was a decent experience. Would use them again, though I'll keep an eye on the account bits and maybe avoid trying to finesse the free-shipping cliff next time.
MTB Upgrade parts
I ordered some new tires, grips, and an extra inner tube. The price was good and they arrived fast and well packaged. I've bought from this company before and never had any problems. Overall, thumbs up!

I've purchased a lot of bike accessories from this company and I've never had any problems. Their prices are really good and they ship things out super fast. I definitely suggest them to anyone in need of cycling gear.
Shimano Ultegra disc brake shifters & calipers
Installing these Shimano Ultegra disc brake shifters & calipers was a real pain because I needed to shorten the hoses. But the worst part was that the brass barbs I needed weren't in the kit. I contacted customer service at Merlin Cycles for help, hoping they would just send me the missing parts. But instead, they suggested I cut the barbs out of the hoses myself. It was a messy and frustrating process that ended with brake oil everywhere and me feeling let down. Overall, the lack of parts and unhelpful customer service experience has put me off from buying from Merlin Cycles again in the future.
Shadowtech rear mech 10/11 speed
I found the perfect rear derailleur for my bike at a really good price on Merlin Cycles' website. Ordering it was super easy and I got it delivered the next day. The service from Merlin Cycles was great, and I'm really happy with my purchase.
2 x road bike tires and tubes
I recently picked up a couple of new road bike tires and tubes to replace my old ones. I was super pleased with the whole transaction. The communication was excellent, the price couldn't be beat compared to other places, and my order arrived promptly and in great condition. The only drawback was that the tubes weren't quite as high quality as the tires, but they'll work fine for my training rides. All in all, it was a fantastic experience and I will definitely be coming back as a customer in the future.
Brake purchase for race
The people working at the store were amazing! They really went the extra mile to make sure my order was sent out quickly, even though there was a delay. Thanks to their dedication, I got the brakes I needed right before my race. I'm so thankful for their help!
Carbon handlebar purchase
I was so stoked when my carbon handlebar showed up so fast! I scored some awesome deals on their website, which was a huge bonus. The only bummer was that the handlebar could've been packed better to avoid any damage while being shipped. Luckily, it made it here in one piece. All in all, I was really impressed with the quality of the gear and how quickly it arrived.

Look Keo Pedals
The Look Keo Pedals really came through for me when it comes to giving me more power and keeping my feet comfy during rides. The wider design gives my feet plenty of room to chill out on those long trips. Only downside is they can be a bit snug when it's time to unclip. But all in all, I'm happy with my buy.
