Not Worth the Hassle – Move-In Issues, DIY Maintenance, and Unjust Fees
Our experience with Blueground left much to be desired. While the apartments may look nice at first glance, the reality is that move-in readiness is not properly checked. We encountered multiple maintenance issues—including a rusty washer, weak water flow in the kitchen and bathroom faucets, mold in the stand-in shower, and even a leaky dishwasher—none of which were addressed before our arrival.
Instead of Blueground ensuring the unit was fully functional and comfortable, we were expected to identify and report these issues ourselves—all on our own time, during our stay. Scheduling maintenance and waiting for repairs became an added burden, making us question: What exactly are we paying for? A premium short-term rental, or a self-managed apartment full of surprises?
To top it off, the move-out process was just as frustrating. Despite thoroughly cleaning the unit—just as we did in a prior stay with no issues—we were hit with an unjustified “deep cleaning” fee. Blueground provided no before-and-after photos, only pictures of collected dust and hair, which should already be covered under their standard cleaning. This felt like an arbitrary charge tacked on at the end, much like how banks impose hidden fees.
If you’re considering Blueground, be warned: thoroughly inspect everything when you move in and prepare to handle maintenance on your own. And when you move out, don’t be surprised if you get an extra charge with little to no explanation. For the price they charge, the experience should be seamless—but instead, it’s just one hassle after another.
