    Worth the small nerves

I almost didn't book this because it felt too good to be true — three cities, flights from Boston, nine nights of hotels with breakfast and the trains between places for about $1,100? I kept thinking there had to be a catch. I finally went for it last September and, well, most of my worries melted away within the first few hours. My first impression stepping out in Budapest was that it was so easy to breathe and walk around; the hotel was tidy, in a safe neighborhood, and breakfast actually felt fresh, not like the usual sad buffet. I wandered along the Danube right after I arrived, poked into the Cave Chapel (cool, odd little place) and spent a happy hour at the Central Market sampling things I couldn't pronounce. Food was a highlight — nothing fancy, but lots of really good bites. Vienna surprised me by being kind of sprawling; bigger than I expected, but Uber and public transit made it manageable. If you like architecture, you're in for a treat — ornate facades everywhere, and once I got into the center I mostly just walked and stared. I even tried my luck at Casino Wien and walked out 330 euros ahead — yeah, that was a lucky night. You also have to eat a Wienerschnitzel there, it's basically mandatory, and I did. A small place near my hotel, Sip Song, turned out to be a fun detour — run by a Swedish guy and a Thai woman, with bartenders from Montana, England and Poland. Kinda random, kinda lovely. Prague felt like a city you could move to; easy to get around and the food again really hit the spot. I ate at a place called Mimosa twice — pork knee one night (huge, glorious) and spaghetti carbonara the next. On the Vltava I found Botel Matylda, a boat-restaurant, and had the best veal osso bucco of the trip. I also wandered into two jazz clubs and one magical classical concert at the Mirror Chapel — totally unexpected. Trains between cities were smooth; first time on European trains for me and honestly relaxing. So yeah, I was nervous about booking a package that seemed almost too cheap, but it delivered — clean hotels, decent locations, easy transfers, and enough little surprises to make it feel like my own trip. Glad I went for it.

    Actually worth it, with caveats

I’d book with them again, but I’d skip the included transfers next time. The trip overall gave good value — hotels were basic but spot-on for location, and the day trips were legitimately well run. Now the why: the rooms were simple, no fluff, but they let us walk to most sights, which mattered more than a fancier lobby. The guided outings were the highlight; clear itineraries, on-time departures (mostly), and guides who knew their stuff. On the downside, the booking process left a bad taste. We booked at one price, then the fare dropped by about $300 within a couple of days and they wouldn’t let us rebook at the lower rate. They did throw in a couple of dry trips as compensation, which was appreciated, but still — that was annoying. The transfer setup was the other main issue. Communication with the transport provider was shaky: first driver was late, the second pickup couldn’t be confirmed because of a website glitch, and the transfer office closed early on Saturday so calls went unanswered. That caused way more anxiety than it should have. Customer support by email before the trip, though, was quick and polite, so credit where it’s due. If you care a lot about solo control, handle your own airport transfers. Otherwise, expect good day tours and convenient hotel locations, but be ready to push a bit on the booking and transfer details. Small flaws, but not dealbreakers for me.
