Overseas purchase for family
Hey y'all, I'm an American working abroad and I was trying to buy some stuff for my family back home. But dang, I hit a snag when I tried to place an order with Pleasant Hill Grain. They straight up said no because I'm using an overseas credit card and bank. It really got me feeling frustrated and let down because every other place I've shopped at in the US had no problem taking my international payment method.
They told me I had to take a day off and go to my bank to set up a wire transfer for $280, plus pay extra fees. Seemed like a lot of unnecessary hassle to me. In today's world, businesses should be able to handle transactions from customers all over, including us American folks working abroad. Pleasant Hill Grain's old-school payment rules really messed up my plans to buy gifts for my family, so I hope they'll update their system soon so everyone can shop with ease, no matter where they're from.Purchased a commercial-grade mixer
I had a rough time with this purchase. The item broke right after the return period ended. They said I could send it back, but I had to pay for shipping both ways, which added up to over $1500. They told me the mixer was picky about generator power, but that wasn't in the paperwork. They sent me some parts to fix it on my own without even seeing the item. There was no one to come out and check on it, and they didn't cover any of the diagnosis costs. Their warranty plan is pretty much worthless.
Emergency oven purchase
I really needed an oven ASAP, and Pleasant Hill Grain totally saved the day when another company dropped the ball. Their customer service was top-notch, and they went above and beyond to make sure I got the oven in time to keep my business running. I can't thank them enough for their quick and efficient help. I will definitely be coming back for more!
Junior grain grinder and ground pearl sugar
I just bought the Junior Grain Grinder from Pleasant Hill Grain, and let me tell you, it works really great! It ground up my Waffle Pantry Pearl Sugar like a champ, making it into a fine powder just like regular sugar. I had two big 55-pound bags of pearl sugar, and the grinder handled one of them no problem. The sugar that came out is perfect for making yummy hot cocoa and other treats. I'm really happy with the product and how well it works.
Famag IM40
Bought a $4K Famaj Mixer. Item broke shortly after, but it was past the 30 day return period. They offered to still take it back, but I had to pay the original outbound shipping and the return shipping. (Greater than $1500.00 total). Business advertises free shipping for iems over $75. This is the first scam. Then, since the item was under warranty for 1 year, they started shipping me parts to fix the machine myself? Then, they started telling me, without having looked at the broken machine, that it was because of my generator power. They stated that this machine was sensitive to generator power. No word of this in the Famag paperwork though. So, on the one hand they are blaming my generator because the mixer is 'so sensitive". But on the the other hand, they sent me parts and told me to replace then. Switches, power buttons, the entire control board, safety switches, everything. They literally just told me to do it myself. Crazy. No field service rep. No "take it to a certified tech" and we'll reiburse costs for diagnosis. Then to top it all off, they stated that thet only way to get it serviced under warranty is to ship in back to them for almost $800. Then you have to pay to have it shipped back after they fix it. THis is the biggest scam ever. They try to recoup "free shipping" and return shipping on returns, and they have zero capacity to carry out a warranty plan without shipping a heavy, large item back to them. Pathetic business with shady advertisings who will reip you hard when they get the chance. I am looking at a $4000 loss because the only option is to spend $780 each way to get it to them for warranty work. Total scam. Do not buy a large item from these people. They cannot and will not execute their warranty plan without taking you for hudreds/thousands of dollars. Stay away.
Mixed experience with Pleasant Hill Grain
I've had a few experiences with Pleasant Hill Grain, and overall, I would say they're a solid company. They sell a variety of grains, flours, and other baking-related products, and their prices seem to be in line with other similar companies that I've looked at.
One thing I appreciate about them is their wide selection of products. Whether I'm looking for a specific type of wheat flour or need to buy bulk quinoa, they seem to have it in stock. They also have a good selection of specialty flours and grains, like spelt and sorghum, which can be hard to find elsewhere.
I've placed a few orders with them online, and their shipping has always been prompt. I've never had any issues with my orders being inaccurate or damaged upon arrival. Customer service has been helpful when I've had to contact them with questions.
One downside I've noticed is that their website can be a bit clunky to navigate. It's not the most user-friendly interface, and it can take a bit of searching to find exactly what you're looking for. But once you do find it, the product information is usually detailed and helpful.
Overall, I'd recommend Pleasant Hill Grain as a reputable source for buying grains and flours. They have a good selection, competitive prices, and reliable shipping. They may not have the sleekest website, but it gets the job done.
