    Roll Adventure Step-thru

    I purchased the bike as a Christmas present for my wife a couple of years ago... just as the Covid 19 pandemic was surfacing. I ordered it online in October (as best as I remember) and it did not arrive until April! There were no Roll dealers anywhere near our home in South Carolina so online was our only option. (Our LBS's had no stock either.) We did get messages from Roll re the delays, but each message seemed to suggest that the bike would arrive "soon"... not really soon enough for us.

    The bike finally arrived and I must say it is really beautiful. Everywhere we ride people comment on the style and finish. That's a plus, certainly. However....

    When the bike arrived it was nicely packaged and I put it together myself. I've had a lot of experience with bike and bike mechanics over many years, working in bike shops and doing my own service and repairs. There were several issues with the assembly.

    The stem was upside down. This may have been a concession to the size of the frame vs. my wife's measurements (which we sent to Roll with the order) but the stem/headset/handlebars setup just looked wrong. I fixed this and it did not seem to affect her comfort. I don't know whether this setup was intentional or not, but it didn't seem right to me.

    In addition, the rear wheel was not properly dished and I had a very hard time getting the rear derailleur to function at all. Roll did say (in their fine print) that new users should have a professional bike shop go over the setup and our LBS was able to fix the issues. It now works fine and we're fine with the bike. This added a bit over $100 to the cost of the bike.

    Final comments.... You probably shouldn't purchase a bicycle (especially at this price point) without riding it first. This may seem obvious, but the Roll's marketing ... seemed to be that they had the best product and were willing to stand behind it with a return guarantee. Since it took so long to get the bike (and since I am on really good terms with our LBS) I thought it was a pretty good deal. In the end, maybe it was, but my advice is to think this through before ordering a bike online.

    My husband bought my bike at Roll several years ago and I love it. So when we all decided to pitch in and buy my granddaughter a bike, the first place I took her was Roll. I didn't care for the staff at Bexley so we went to Polaris. I wasn't happy with them either. At this point I won't be going back to Roll. Very disappointed in customer service. I was told that if we ordered the bike she wanted it wouldn't arrive until December at earliest this was a Friday. I found another bike shop with friendlier staff and on Saturday we were on our way home with the exact bike she originally wanted without waiting until December. Even though bikes are in high demand customer service still counts. Quit trying to steer customers to bikes they don't want just because it's what you have and try to find solutions.
