My experience using this service for tax filings in 2023 was a total nightmare. I had so many issues and errors with no real explanations and zero customer support to help me figure it out. I upgraded and paid for what I thought would be an easy process, but I couldn't even get in touch with a tax specialist online after waiting for 45 minutes. They told me I could only reach them by email, which seemed like a ridiculous and inefficient way to handle urgent problems. Even after sending several emails with different ticket numbers, they couldn't explain the discrepancies in my Federal and Provincial income numbers, including an unexplained $20K+ addition and many errors in both returns. Dealing with a representative who didn't know what they were doing just made me even more frustrated and made me lose all trust in their service. I won't be using this service for my tax filings again, that's for sure.
Wealthsimple experience
Man, let me tell you, Wealthsimple is a disaster. I decided to give them a shot, right? And you won't believe this - they totally messed up my conversion rates and charged me incorrectly. I hit them up with two emails to ask about it and to vent my frustration, but what do I get? Radio silence. Absolutely nothing. And when I tried giving them a call, I got hung up on and some vague promise of an email that never showed up. Talk about being left on read! And it's not just the awful customer service, they slip in those sneaky little account fees under the radar. On top of that, they altered their portfolio inception date just to make themselves look better than they really are. Sneaky, sneaky. And you know what else? Their returns after fees are not even that impressive. They are straight-up unprofessional, no doubt about it. If only they had some sort of customer service, even just a little bit - but, nope. Thank goodness I was just testing the waters with them. Whew!

I wouldn't suggest this platform to anyone who wants good customer support. Also, they made trades without asking me first, saying it was too risky to wait. I'm not happy with the investment platform I've been using. They claim to be free, but then they sneakily charge you for conversions and other things. It feels like they're trying to take my money! I've been with this company for a few years now mainly for filing my taxes. But their other financial services like savings and trading just don't measure up to traditional banks. Transfer fee misunderstanding
I recently opened an account with a finance company, thinking it would be simple to transfer money from my RRSP and TFSA accounts. But boy, was I mistaken! It turns out, they only reimburse fees for accounts over a certain amount, not for the total of all your accounts combined. So, guess who ended up with a huge fee? That's right, me! I was charged CAD 172 for transferring only CAD 1,800 into my TFSA, which is a whopping 10% of my total account value. I was not happy about that at all. I contacted the company and requested a refund because honestly, I wouldn't have made that transfer if I had known about the exorbitant fee. I even suggested that they should send customers a warning email about the reimbursement policy for low account values. It's not that difficult, just give us a heads up and save us the hassle, you know?
Free tax software disappointment
I used to really like this tax software because it was so easy to use and didn't cost me a thing. But now, they've gone and changed it so that if you want to do taxes for more than 2 people, they make you shell out $40! Can you believe that? Not cool at all. Feels like they pulled a fast one on us, because they used to advertise it as always being free, and now it's not. I'm pretty upset about it, to be honest.

My time with this stock trading account has been really frustrating. I've run into all sorts of problems that have made it hard for me to make good trades. For one thing, there have been times when I've wanted to trade a certain stock, but it wasn't even an option on this platform, so I missed out on making money. The actual trading part is super slow and not very good, which means I've missed out on even more chances to make a profit. And it's annoying that I can't do basic stuff like short a stock or set a stop order on this platform. Plus, the prices for cryptocurrencies are way too high compared to other places, so it's not as good of a deal.
Opening account with misleading information
They'd still charge me management fees without actually managing my account, and any money earned wouldn't be reinvested or earn interest. So basically, they'd just be holding onto my cash without doing anything to benefit me.
