Outdoor gear
I was so pumped to order some new outdoor gear from REI online, but man, did it turn into a total bummer. The stuff they sell is top-notch, no question about it, but the whole buying process was a disaster. I thought I was being smart by choosing the store pick-up option, but boy was I wrong. I get to the counter all excited, just to find out that my payment got canceled. Turns out REI's using some middleman who went ahead and refunded half my order behind my back, which caused all sorts of confusion and got me super frustrated. The person ringing me up said this kind of mix-up happens a lot, which is just not cool. And to make matters worse, a couple days later I get an email saying the rest of my stuff got canceled too because of some "inventory changes." I mean, come on! How can a big-shot company like REI have such poor communication and not keep things transparent? It's just not right.

Misleading advertising
Be careful with that free photoshop program from the company. It says it's free, but then they make you sign up for a plan that starts charging you after 3 days to save your work. Trying to cancel that monthly charge can be a real pain, not an easy process at all.
