Return Policy
I was really let down by REI's return policy when I compared it to places like Amazon. Amazon makes it super easy with free returns and quick credits, usually within hours. On the other hand, REI charges $5.99 for returns and you have to wait up to 2 weeks to get your money back. Amazon lets you return stuff to places like UPS, Whole Foods, and Kohl's, but REI only takes returns through the post office. Plus, Amazon doesn't make you worry about finding a box, tape, or printing a label for your return, but REI makes you do all that yourself.

Earrings gift for wife
I ordered some earrings from their website for Christmas and when they arrived, one of them was damaged and had some gross greasy stuff on it. I reached out to the company, but it took them over three weeks to get back to me. When they finally did, they said they couldn't exchange them because of their return policy. They offered to repair it, but they wanted me to pay for it. Pretty offensive after shelling out over $800 for a pair of broken earrings. My wife is never buying from this brand again.
